The anticipated black comedy, the Russian Doll season 2 is now back to resume filming. However, Netflix is still silent on the release date despite the show’s popularity.
The Russian Doll is one of the best series among Netflix Originals in 2019, and fans are now clamoring for the next installment. The second season is supposed to start filming back in March. However, the outbreak in the coronavirus temporarily halted the productions.
The series follows the story of Nadia, who is a guest at her own birthday party, organized by her best friend. However, when Nadia died after being hit by a car, she ended up alive in the bathroom at the time of her party.
Hence, Nadia dies again and again on her birthday. She then tries to break away from the cycle. As the story progresses, another character, Alan is also experiencing the same cycle of death. The last season left the fans with a satisfying cliffhanger finale.

The location of the filming is in New York. And with the high number of confirmed cases in the city, the production has to be shut down. Furthermore, the delay may continue as curfew will be imposed around the city. The recent death of George Floyd in the hands of police led to a nationwide protest, and New York is not an exemption.
Russian Doll season 2 Netflix renewal and release date
Back in June 2019, Netflix confirmed the renewal of Russian Doll season 2. However, the streaming giant is still silent on the release date. The series co-creator Leslye Headland, disclosed that the series is designed to have three seasons. She said,
“We pitched Netflix three seasons of the most bonkers, heartfelt, passionate, this-is-what-we-truly-feel-like-is-our-story-to-tell idea…and they said: ‘Great, the more of that the better.”
Hence, fans will be thrilled to look forward to seeing the characters for the third time. Since the production may have just recently resumed, the release date will be 2021 the earliest. Furthermore, the script is still far from being complete. There’s still a lot of brainstorming to be done.

Russian Doll season 2 plot
The showrunners, as well as Netflix, have remained silent on the plot. However, showrunner Lyonne promised that Russian Doll season 2 is the “same show, just weirder”. Furthermore, Lyonne suggested that more versions of Nadia will be expected in the Russian Doll world. She said,
“There’s always a million yous walking around. It just depends on which one you’re going to put on today. It raises the question of how many versions [of the characters] are there all together? That’s certainly something that was considered.”
