Rust crew member penned a heartbreaking statement after becoming the last person to hold cinematographer Halyna Hutchins before her death.
Serge Svetnoy, a crew member who was standing next to Halyna Hutchins during the Rust incident, wrote an emotional post on Facebook days after the cinematographer’s death.
Svetnoy shared his story under the account titled My vision of the RUST tragedy, thanking everyone who contacted him to give words of condolences and support. According to the crew member, he knew Hutchins and worked with her on almost all her films.
“Sometimes we’ve shared food and water. We’ve been burning under the sun, freezing in the snow on the shoots. We took care of each other,” he wrote. “Yes, I can say with 100% confidence she was my friend. WAS!!!”
He then revealed he received calls from several outlets who asked him to share what happened when the incident took place.
Per Svetnoy, he was standing with the cinematographer before she and director Joel Souza suffered from shots. He, reportedly, held her in his arms while she was dying.
After having her blood on his hands, he decided to share his opinion on how the tragic event happened.
Serge Svetnoy blames negligence over Halyna Hutchins’ death
In the same post, Svetnoy shared what should be blamed on his friend’s death. After all that happened, people should, reportedly, blame it all on negligence and unprofessionalism.
“The negligence from the person who was supposed to check the weapon on the site did not do this; the person who had to announce that the loaded gun was on the site did not do this; the person who should have checked this weapon before bringing it to the set did not do it. And the DEATH OF THE HUMAN IS THE RESULT!” he exclaimed.
As of the writings, the authorities and the production company of Rust continue their separate investigation on what truly happened. However, no official finding that could prove potential negligence yet.
Rust crew members had been filming for 10 days before the event halted the production. The film’s executives, reportedly, held safety meetings thrice – one of which was on the day of the incident.
Another crew member revealed to People that they all felt unsafe on the set until Hutchin’s death. The insider explained that they saw a lot of red flags while watching the 24-year-old armorer, Hannah Gutierrez Reed. She was tasked to oversee weapons on the Rust set.
