There is good news for all MCU and Black Panther fans. Director Ryan Coogler has announced a brand new Wakanda series for Disney Plus.
According to The Independent, a new Wakanda series is coming soon on the Disney Plus platform. Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is currently working on a spin-off show based on the fictional land portrayed in the first film, back in 2018.
Wakanda series early details
Ryan Coogler, who directed and co-wrote 2018’s Black Panther, has signed up an exclusive five-year television deal with Disney. It’s for his own production company, Proximity Media. Under this deal, he will make a spin-off, Wakanda series based in the fictional kingdom. Along with that, he is also working on the sequel to Chadwick Boseman’s first installment.
Speaking on his new contract with Disney, Coogler expressed his happiness. In a recent media interaction, he said:
“As avid consumers of television, we couldn’t be happier to be launching our television business with Bob Iger, Dana Walden, and all the amazing studios under the Disney umbrella.”
He also added that he’s looking forward to building a relationship with viewers worldwide with the Wakanda series.
“We’re already in the mix on some projects that we can’t wait to share.”
As far as the next Black Panther is concerned, Marvel Studios’s already clarified that they won’t recast Chadwick Boseman. Plus, they won’t even digitally recreate the character of T’Challa played by him. The late actor passed away last year, aged 43, after battling colon cancer.
Marvel boss Kevin Feige also said in January that his team wants to continue the legacy of Boseman in the future.
“The world of Wakanda is now revered around the world, thanks in large part to [Boseman], [and] deserves to live on, and that’s what Coogler is focused on.”
Upcoming MCU projects in the future
Meanwhile, the most famous cinematic universe is currently trying to handle a lot of properties simultaneously. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there have already been many delays, which are now continuing forward as well.
Upcoming movies like Black Widow, Shang-Chi, and Eternals will arrive late now. Plus, many announced TV shows would take time as well. WandaVision did start the MCU release cycle last month, but it looks like the journey ahead is not that simple. After Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s release in March, it will become difficult to present new content.
Future shows like Hawkeye, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, Armor Wars, and of course, the Wakanda series will see massive delays in terms of months or years.
