Ryzen 7 4700G impresses with gaming benchmarks

Share

AMD has recently announced the arrival of Ryzen 4000-series APU. These include the Ryzen 7 4700G. Now, gaming benchmarks have surfaced and it is impressive.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is on a roll in the mid-level to budget CPUs. The Ryzen 7 4700G is part of the new devices that work really well without a dedicated graphics unit.

However, people were not convinced of its strength unless it is seen in action. That day has finally come.

YouTube channel, TechEpiphany Benchmarks has released a video using the Ryzen 7 4700G APU. The latest processor-GPU combo from AMD did well on Forza Horizon 4.

This game is one of the graphics-demanding titles out there, especially in the highest settings. The majority of manufacturers often use this game to show how powerful a new product is.

The test setup

The YouTube channel used the following setup to conduct the benchmarks.

  • Ryzen 7 4700G
  • Asus Prime B550M-A
  • 16GB (2x8GB) 4133mhz

Other specs were not disclosed.

Forza Horizons 4 – 1440p

The first test is very impressive for an APU. The majority of built-in graphics cards struggle to produce acceptable frame rates at 1080p.

The Ryzen 7 4700G did it with ease. The CPU got an average of 36FPS with some of the settings tweaked.

However, watching the video clip shows that it still an eye-candy despite turning down some graphics options.

Forza Horizons 4 – 1080p

The performance went higher at a lower resolution. It got an average of 55FPS with occasional dips to 49FPS. The highest frame rate it got is 62FPS

But, do take note that some of the settings are set to medium. Turning this up to high will result in a drop in framerates.

Forza Horizons 4 – 900p

This resolution is getting old. However, it is still worth checking. Limited budget builds often use APUs. Users still stick with monitors that have a 4:3 aspect ratio sometimes.

Nonetheless, the Ryzen 7 4700G produces better numbers in these resolutions. But that is already expected as the previous benchmarks resulted in acceptable numbers.

It got an average of 68FPS and it reached as high as 76FPS. It dipped to 59FPS at some busy parts.

Gears 5 – 1080p

The channel tested the processor on another game. Gears 5 is another demanding titles that will easily stress the APU.

The results were impressive as well. Regular scenes have an average of 40FPS. However, once the shooting begins, the framerate drops to around 35FPS.

Budget builds are getting better

The Ryzen 7 4700G presented very acceptable results for an APU. Having a dedicated graphics card is still the best option.

But think about it. This processor costs a lot less compared to buying a separate processor and video card.

Budget builds once the Ryzen 4000 series processor comes out will definitely get better. Competitive eSports will be easier to run while modern titles are also doable.

With these benchmarks in mind, there is no doubt that the Ryzen 7 4700G is a beast. It is a shame that it is only sold to OEMs as of the moment. Hopefully, retail versions will come out soon.
