Salma Hayek finally spoke about her near-fatal COVID-19 diagnosis and how she luckily overcame it.

For the past months, several celebrities have already contracted the dreaded virus. While some of them survived, a number of well-known personalities also lost their battles.

Meanwhile, Hayek joined the list of celebrities who experienced a life and death situation with COVID-19.

How Salma Hayek almost died due to COVID-19

Hayek refused to tell her fans and followers about her COVID-19 diagnosis. But after winning the battle, she finally earned the courage to speak up.

According to the actress, she chose to keep quiet as she tried to recover from a near-fatal case of COVID-19.

In a report by NBC News, Hayek revealed that she contracted the virus in the early days of the pandemic. Due to her worsening condition, she spent seven weeks in isolation inside one of the rooms of their London mansion.

She pledged to stay inside their home until she gets better. Unfortunately, her status got worse that she was put on oxygen.

“My doctor begged me to go to the hospital because it was so bad,” she said. “I said, ‘No, thank you. I’d rather die at home.'”

The 54-year-old star added that the disease seemingly snatched the energy she once had.

Hayek returned to work after isolation

After seven weeks of fighting for her life, Hayek came back stronger in April.

Last month, she joined Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci. She plays the role of a clairvoyant who eventually got convicted for helping Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga).

Reggiani killed her husband Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver), an heir to the Gucci fashion empire, in 1995.

According to Hayek, the team made the filming easy despite recording it amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“It was the perfect job to just get back into it. I had started doing Zooms at one point, but I could only do so many because I would get so tired,” she added.

She also applauded Lady Gaga’s accent since it perfectly resonated with what Patrizia should sound. Hayek told Variety that everyone cannot wait to see the flick already which they carefully created for their fans.

The flick will mark the first job Hayek worked on after the near-fatal COVID-19 experience.
