Samsung has introduced a new range of affordable Galaxy smartphones aimed at budget-conscious consumers in the U.S. market.
Recent Samsung smartphones such as the Galaxy S20 lineup and the Galaxy Fold are quite expensive, with a price tag ranging from US$1,000 to US$2,000.
Now, the Korean tech giant is targeting budget-conscious consumers with the introduction of half a dozen entry-level and mid-range devices.
The Samsung Galaxy A lineup consists of the Galaxy A01, A11, A21, A51, A51 5G, and the A71 5G. The cheapest Galaxy A01 starts at US$110 and the price increases as more features get added to the higher tier models.
Galaxy A01 and A11
These two models are the cheapest among the six new smartphones with a US$110 and US$180 price tag. The A01 comes with a 5.7-inch display with a barely HD (720p) screen.
The main camera at the back comes with a depth sensor for a better portrait mode. As expected, the features are not as high-end as other smartphones. But for this price, it still has 2GB memory and 16GB internal storage. It ships with a 3,000mAh battery which is enough to last a day considering the specifications.
The more expensive A11 has a larger 6.4-inch HD display with a hole punch cutout and it comes with a 5-megapixel ultrawide camera. The battery is also larger with 4,000 mAh and it doubles to the internal storage of the A01 to 32 GB. The memory remains at 2 GB, but a fingerprint scanner is an added bonus.
Galaxy A21 and A51
The A21 and the A51 retail for US$250 and US$400 respectively. The A21 comes with a 6.5-inch HD display and is behind its competitors. The great thing is the quad-camera module in the back that houses a 16-megapixel wide, 8-megapixel ultrawide, depth sensor and a macro camera. The battery, fingerprint sensor, and storage are the same as the A11 but the memory increases to 3GB.
The Galaxy A51 gets a better display with fullHD resolution. The camera module is the same as the A21 but the main shooter is improved with a 48-megapixel sensor. The fingerprint scanner is on-screen and the base storage is greatly increased to 128 GB with 4 GB of memory.
Galaxy A51 5G and A71 5G
Samsung is also offering an improved version of the A51, now with a 5G module. If there is already a 5G network available then this is a good buy due to the improved 4,500mAh battery and 6 GB of memory – perfect for multitasking. It retails for $500.
The Galaxy A71 is the best among the A-series models. It has a 6.7-inch full HD screen with a quad-camera module as well. For US$100 more, the main camera is an improved 48-megapixel shooter but the rest of the setup remains the same as the A51.
Between the two, the A51 is the better buy considering that the only difference is the main camera.
Samsung’s A-series of smartphones covers almost all the needs of every consumer. But it is overwhelming at the same time. Add these 6 new models to the S20 lineup, Note series plus the Galaxy Fold, Samsung has a lot to offer that might confuse buyers.
