More leaks on Samsung’s second-generation foldable smartphone have surfaced months before its purported release.
In the Android universe, it’s no longer privy to everyone that Samsung is en route to release the refresh of its first polarizing foldable smartphone sometime in 2020, the Galaxy Fold 2. And now in the second quarter, the phone-slash-tablet is looming larger than ever.
120Hz main display refresh rate and S-Pen
The latest development on the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 comes from noted industry analyst Ross Young, who is also the founder and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants. Young shares a series of tweets which essentially encapsulate what kind of specs the second-generation Fold will drive into an experience.
Young revealed that the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2’s front display is slated to settle with a 6.23-inch size, with a resolution of 2,267 x 819 pixels. Meanwhile, the screen will also support 60Hz of refresh rate.
For its main display, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 will offer a more massive 7.59-inch, with a resolution of 2,213 x 1,689 pixels and 372 DPI. Also, it is claimed that the main display will be a flexible Dynamic AMOLED screen, with its backplane technology confirmed to be based on LTPO.
Perhaps the most striking revelation that was taken from Young’s tweet is the main display’s inclusion of a 120Hz refresh rate. If this pans out, the device’s screen should provide a smoother overall experience.
Another pertinent feature that is confirmed for the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 is the S-Pen. Together with the rumored 120Hz refresh rate, such a combination should elevate the Fold 2 as a modern productivity machine.
Generous storage and camera offerings
One source also revealed that the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 would come in two storage sizes: 256GB and 512GB.
In terms of camera, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 is likely launching with the same rear camera setup as the Samsung Galaxy S20+. As it is, the next-gen Fold should feature a 12MP primary sensor, 64MP secondary/telephoto lens, and 12MP ultra-wide sensor, alongside a TOF sensor. On the other hand, the front cameras of the Fold 2 could also end up with 10MP or 40MP sensors.
When it comes to battery, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 could either launch with a battery capacity between 4,500mAh and 5,000mAh, with support for 25W Super Fast Charging. Likewise, the phone/tablet could likely be announced with support for wireless and reverse wireless charging, with the latter being upgraded from 5W to 9W
