Samsung has finally launched its budget Android Go device. The Samsung Galaxy A01 Core retails for only US$75[AU$104]. But, there is just one caveat.
The Samsung Galaxy A01 Core debuted today. It is the latest smartphone to join the growing Galaxy A-series family. It is aimed at frugal buyers who are looking for a new device.
This device is running Android 10 Go Edition. Android Go devices are optimized to run smoothly despite having low-tier specs.
Low-end specs, entry-level build quality
The Samsung Galaxy A01 Core is a small device. It has a 5.3-inch PLS TFT display with a 720 x 1480 HD+ resolution. No fancy bells and whistles here. Just a bare display with small bezels on top and bottom.
Mediatek MT6739 quad-core powers this device. It is partnered with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. There is a more expensive variant that comes with 2GB of RAM and doubles the storage. It does come with a MicroSD expansion slot if more storage is needed.
The build quality is expected at this price point. It has a plastic back and plastic frame with a glass display.
There is a single 8-megapixel camera at the back with an f/2.4 aperture. It is not the best camera out there. However, it is better than not having a camera at all.
It works best during the day when there is a large amount of light. Taking photos at night is not ideal. However, an LED flash is available to add more light.
The Galaxy A01 Core takes 1080p videos at 30fps. That is it. There is no 720p slow-motion feature include.
The front camera is a 5-megapixel shooter with an f/2.4 aperture as well.
The Galaxy A01 Core comes with a 3,000mAh battery. It is not as flashy as other devices with more than 4,000mAh of juice.
However, do consider that this device has very low-range specs. It only has an HD+ display and it does not have other gimmicks.
With that being said, the battery might last a whole day of average use. But, gaming, if ever done here, will definitely drain the battery quickly.
Pricing and availability
As said earlier, this device is available for only $75. It is clearly targeted to those who are looking for a budget-conscious device.
However, there is one caveat to this device. The Samsung Galaxy A01 Core is only available in Indonesia, as of the moment. It will arrive in other markets soon, nevertheless.
Samsung to launch more devices soon
The Galaxy A01 Core is not the only device arriving soon. Samsung will launch more devices during the Galaxy Unpacked event.
Several confirmed devices are making their debut on the event. The Samsung Galaxy Fold Z 2, three Galaxy Note 20 variants, and more devices.
There are no exact details on what other devices will arrive. However, there are speculations that there might be a lot of Samsung wearables coming soon.
The Korean tech giant is expected to reveal the new Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Buds. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 might also make an appearance.
The Samsung Galaxy A01 Core is just the start for Samsung. It might not be the best device out there but it works. Hopefully, the performance is smooth despite having a low-tier processor. Other devices such as the Note 20 series make the following weeks exciting though.
