Samsung Galaxy M01s arrives, Infinity-V display and Helio P22 chip in the fold

The Galaxy M01s is the refreshed variant of the Galaxy M01, which was announced in June 2020.

Samsung has announced the Galaxy M01s, the latest entry from the company’s M series of proper entry-level smartphones. The handset also serves as the refreshed version of the vanilla Galaxy M01, which was just minted last month.

Few key changes

In many ways, the Galaxy M01s is similar to that of the Galaxy M01, except for some fundamental changes. For instance, the former features MediaTek’s Helio P22 chipset, an octa-core processor that also packs 3GB of RAM.

In contrast, the Galaxy M01 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 439 processor. The phone, though, still comes 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

The refreshed version also sports a fingerprint reader mounted on its rear. Its regular counterpart doesn’t.

A large display and rear dual cameras

The Samsung Galaxy M01s also employs a larger 6.2-inch PLS TFT screen, with a resolution of 720 x 1,520 pixels. The phone’s notch, on the other hand, houses a single 8MP front-facing snapper. This is a slight upgrade over the Galaxy M01’s 5MP selfie shooter.

Despite some bezels on its chin, the phone still manages a decent screen-to-body ratio of 81.8%. Additionally, the handset has an aspect ratio of 19:09. Like the Galaxy M01, the Galaxy M01s also features a plastic frame and rear panel.

On its rear, the Galaxy M01s packs a dual-camera setup. The system comprises a 13MP primary sensor, right alongside a 2MP depth lens.

Samsung’s latest M series variant also runs on One UI Core 1.1, on top of Android 9.0 Pie. It also sports a 4,000mAh battery, which unfortunately charges over a dated Micro USB port.

Other key features, pricing

Other pertinent features of the device include a 3.5mm headphone jack, loudspeaker, Bluetooth, a dedicated FM radio, and proximity and accelerometer sensors. The phone also has a USB On-The-Go.

Samsung is tipped to sell the Galaxy M01s in a single configuration, with 32GB of internal storage. However, users can have extra storage to up to 512GB through a microSD card. The smartphone is slated to come in two color variants – Light Blue and Gray.

The Galaxy M01s is set to retail for INR 9,999. The phone is confirmed to become available on Samsung’s online and offline stores and other online retailers.
