Samsung is sticking with its “Ultra” formula in the new Galaxy Note 20 lineup, which ultimately ditches the “Plus” variant.
Samsung has officially unveiled the 2020 Galaxy Note series. Launched in its exclusive online Galaxy Unpacked event, the lineup now includes the vanilla Galaxy Note 20 and the premium Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.
Both Note 20 variants feature the main thing that sets them apart from Samsung’s S series of flagship iterations – the S Pen stylus’ inclusion. But as you’d come to expect from their monikers, these phablets also feature variations of perks, from displays, right down to their camera offerings.
Galaxy Note 20: Ultra variant takes charge
In the display department, the Ultra version is king. It features a massive 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED with a resolution of 1,440 x 3,088 pixels. The phone is also noted for being the first one to employ the latest Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. Additionally, its display features HDR10+, Always-On display, and a high 120Hz refresh rate.
The regular Note 20, on the other hand, sports a still-impressive 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen, with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels. It also packs HDR10+ and Always-On display. Its display, however, doesn’t tote around a high refresh rate.
On their rears, the Ultra variant is still the more advanced. It offers a triple-camera setup, headlined by a massive 108-megapixel wide camera, with a 12MP periscope telephoto lens and another 12MP ultrawide module.
The standard Galaxy Note 20, while still offering the same number of sensors, differs in terms of configuration. Its setup comprises 12MP wide, 64MP telephoto, and 12MP ultrawide lenses.
Both phablets feature a 10MP selfie snapper, housed in their display cutouts.
Snapdragon 865+ and Exynos 990 chips with support for Qi wireless charging
The same offerings can be had under the proverbial hood. Both devices are either powered by Samsung’s Exynos 990 chip or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865+ SoC.
The Ultra edition has 12GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB/512GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage options. The latter is also expandable. The Galaxy Note 20 only features 8GB of RAM and a non-expandable set of 128GB/256GB of onboard storage tiers.
The Ultra edition also works on a 4,500mAh battery with 25W fast charging and Qi wireless charging support. The vanilla variant has a 4,300mAh battery, with the same fast-charging offerings.
Other key features of the phablet series are in-display fingerprint sensor, USB Type-C, Samsung Wireless DeX, Bluetooth 5.0, and NFC.
The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra comes with a starting price of USD 1,300, while the Galaxy Note 20’s 5G model starts at USD 1,000. The latter also has a 4G version.
