Samsung recently launched the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. It is a toned-down Galaxy Tab S6 flagship while retaining the S-Pen compatibility.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite comes with the S-Pen out of the box. This is a nice touch as competitors often sell their proprietary tablet pen separately.
But besides the S-pen, are there other factors that make this tablet worth getting?
Design, display, and build quality
This tablet has a very basic design yet looks stunning. It is lightweight with narrow bezels making perfect for everyday carry. The bezels are not as thin as smartphones but it provides enough space to prevent accidental touches.
The include S-pen is designed to work without batteries. It is achieved through the partnership between Samsung and Wacom. The stylus does not need a separate case as it easily sticks to the S6 Lite for storage.
In terms of display, it is not too thin or too large. The 10.4-inch display is small enough for portability, yet provides excellent entertainment value. However, the aspect ratio is 16:10 giving it a small black bar when viewing standard widescreen content.
The aspect ratio though is great for productivity such as web browsing or drawing using the S-pen. It gives enough real estate for these kinds of tasks.
The display resolution is 2000 x 1200. It looks great but not as great as other Samsung devices with AMOLED screens. The Galaxy S6 Lite comes with an LCD panel.
Pixel density is at the low side with 224 PPI. Nonetheless, it is a great display. Only the pixel-peeping users will notice the lower screen density.
Camera and sound quality
Tablets are mainly used for media consumption. But, it is enough for occasional snapshots. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite has a single back camera with an 8-megapixel sensor. The selfie camera is a 5-megapixel shooter.
Both cameras are great as a backup shooter. However, do not expect its quality to be on par with the Samsung S20-series or A-series devices.
The main camera is usually used for taking photos of documents or other tasks. It does a great job at that.
Meanwhile, the selfie camera is clear enough for voice conferences or voice chats.
The audio quality is one of the key strengths of this device. It has a stereo setup with speakers on top and bottom of the device.
It has a clear sound with an ample amount of bass. This is due to the collaboration between Samsung and AKG. Turning the volume up does not muffle the music nor is it garbage-sounding.
The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite easily has one of the best speakers for a tablet today.
Performance and One UI 2.0
This tablet is powered by the Exynos 9611 processor with 4GB of memory. Both variants have the same amount of RAM but it can be availed with 64GB or 128GB of storage. There is a dedicated microSD expansion slot if the storage is not enough.
The Samsung One UI adds a lot of features to stock Android. Some of these features are useful. Other apps that arrive pre-installed are sometimes a hit or miss. It may or may not work better than the Google Media Suite.
This device works well in terms of multitasking. It is not powerful enough to run the Samsung Dex. However, it is powerful enough for daily tasks.
Opening up to seven apps is possible. Activate the split-screen mode and add several apps to the floating widget.—this makes multitasking way easier. Using this method is not ideal, but it showcases the limitation of the processor.
The overall performance of this tablet is great. Stuttering does not occur unless the number of apps open is too much.
The included S-pen works well with compatible apps. It glides smoothly with precise touchpoints. It clearly shows the expertise of Wacom as the top pen tablet brand.
Gaming through this device is doable but it not advisable.
Use the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite all-day
This tablet is rated to last up to 10 hours depending on the usage. It has a generous 7040mAh battery for daily usage.
Battery life extends with proper management of applications.
The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite supports fast charging but is only limited to 15-watts. It would have been nice to see it compatible with 18-watts or higher charging.
Is it worth buying?
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is priced at US$350[AU$512] for the Wi-Fi only version. It is not Bad considering the capabilities of the S-pen support.
However, this is a compromised Galaxy Tab S6. Do no expect flagship performance from this device.
Get the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite when on the hunt for a lightweight, affordable tablet with excellent speakers for media consumption. However, expect to be bothered by occasional stutters.
