The Galaxy Z Flip 5G variant is nearly identical to its 4G counterpart but trumps it definitively in the hardware department.
Samsung has officially unveiled the 5G refresh of the Galaxy Z Flip smartphone. But despite its near-identical design and offerings with its predecessor, the new foldable smartphone from the Korean tech giant still manages to surprise the crowd.
Galaxy Z Flip 5G: Sky is the limit for the processor
The key takeaway from the release of the new Galaxy phone is, without a doubt, the inclusion of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865+ chipset. This is quite a significant upgrade as the vanilla edition featured the Snapdragon 855+ at the time of its launch.
As it stands, the newer chipset’s accompaniment also allows the phone to boast 5G radios down the line. The SoC is then coupled with an improved Adreno 650 for its needs on graphics.
Nevertheless, the phone still works on an 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard; the latter, though, is now running a flashier UFS 3.1 type of storage.
An expected hike on pricing
And then, of course, there’s the pricing. The foldable Galaxy phone now retails for USD 1,449.99, making its USD 70 more premium than the regular Galaxy Z Flip. With the rise of pricing on premium Qualcomm chipsets as of late, this is to be expected.
Meanwhile, Samsung has revealed that the foldable’s predecessor will still come with the same pricing.
Tried-and-tested formula
Samsung didn’t change the formula of its new foldable in terms of its other key design features and specifications.
The new foldable still employs a 6.7-inch foldable Dynamic AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,636 pixels. The screen is also HDR10+-compliant. On the other hand, the cover display has a 1.1-inch Super AMOLED type, with a resolution of 112 x 300 pixels.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5G also still features a plastic front, a glass back with Corning Gorilla Glass 6, and an aluminum frame.
In the camera department, the foldable smartphone comes with a dual-camera setup on its rear. This is headlined by a 12MP wide camera, with another 12MP ultrawide as its auxiliary sensor. On the front, a single 10MP wide camera serves as its selfie shooter.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5G is also listed with a 3,300mAh battery, supporting 15W fast wired charging. Although it has fast wireless charging, Samsung hasn’t identified its capacity yet.
The foldable phone also retails in two new colors – Mystic Grey and Mystic Bronze.
Samsung was previously rumored to unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 5G at its imminent Unpacked Galaxy event on August 5.
