Less than a month after its global announcement, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is finally ready to go commercial.
The launch date of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is now set in stone. Less than a month after Samsung announced its newest foldable in the Galaxy Unpacked event, the device is now confirmed to debut commercially on Sept. 1.
The latest development was announced via the official Twitter account of Samsung Mobile. The tweet, which came with the Galaxy Z Fold 2’s Mystic Bronze variant’s image, revealed that it will be unwrapped yet again on the said date at “Unpacked Part 2.”
Galaxy Z Fold 2 specifications
The obvious highlight of the recently-concluded Galaxy Unpacked event, the Galaxy Z Fold, has all the bells and whistles of a 2020 flagship smartphone.
It features a 7.6-inch Foldable Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, with a resolution of 1,768 x 2,208 pixels. The phone’s inner display also has a high 120Hz refresh rate and is compliant with HDR10+. Meanwhile, the phone’s cover display now packs a larger 6.23-inch Super AMOLED screen, with a resolution of 816 x 2,260 pixels.
Around its back, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 employs a triple-camera setup, headlined by a 12-megapixel wide sensor with OIS. Accompanying the primary camera are two 12MP telephoto and ultrawide lens; the former also has OIS. On the other hand, the device has a 10MP selfie snapper inside. The cover display has a front-facing shooter as well, housing another 10MP wide lens.
Flagship internals and beyond
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865+ chip, with 12GB of RAM and a non-expandable 256GB of internal storage. The phone is also listed with a 4,500mAh battery, with support for 25W fast wired and 11W wireless charging; a 4.5W reverse wireless charging feature is also supported.
Other key features of the smartphone include a side-mounted fingerprint reader, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, and USB Type-C. The phone runs on the latest One UI 2.5, based on Android 10.
Pricing
Winfuture.de’s Roland Quandt also leaked the Galaxy Z Fold 2’s European price. Accordingly, reliable sources have tipped him that the device will be sold for EUR 1,999 in Germany.
Note that this is EUR 100 less than its predecessor’s launch price. But as Samsung did some downgrading on its internal storage, this is to be expected. The original Galaxy Fold packs 512GB of storage at the time of its launch.
