Samsung is reportedly developing the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold S, which will rival the Microsoft Surface Duo in form and overall function.
This year has been significant for Samsung. Despite the pandemic, they still went all-in in their plans. Fortunately, the turnout of their launches was great. The company was able to flood the market with products that ranged from affordable to premium and even to ultra-premium.
The latest phone they released was the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2. While the price is on the higher-end, the company expects it to get ahead of the foldable segment. They’re not stopping there. They even want to push the envelope even further.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold S to hit the market in 2021
SamMobile reports that Samsung is working on a new foldable to be called the Z Fold S. The mechanism will be completely different from the Z Fold 2. Instead of just opening fully flat, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold S will have a hinge that can rotate 360 degrees. In other words, it has its eyes set on unseating the Microsoft Surface Duo.
No other details about the phone were disclosed. Nonetheless, the new foldable phone from Samsung is expected to be on par with the Galaxy Z Fold 2. There is also no news about whether or not the new foldable will have an external screen.
In addition, Samsung seems to be deadset on capitalizing on this new market. Apple still hasn’t given signs about foldable tech. Therefore, Samsung can dominate the market with ease because of a small number of competitors existing. They are even allegedly working on a cheaper mid-range foldable that will cater to a wider audience.
Foldable market segment fight
The only formidable opponent of Samsung in foldable is Microsoft. While it is true that Xiaomi and Huawei have their versions of foldable phones, only Samsung and Microsoft have a wide reach.
In addition, Huawei has been handicapped by the U.S’ ban on the company. Xiaomi, on the other hand, remains to be a company that has a niche market in specific countries.
As such, Samsung only has Microsoft on its way to a big share in the market. The Microsoft Surface Duo will only be available in the U.S. starting September 10. Unfortunately, it will not be available elsewhere in the world until 2021. This news comes as a sad update for Microsoft fans.
If Samsung indeed pushes with the new foldable phone, it can immediately grab the unserved global customers of Microsoft.
