The next Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 will allegedly have a third screen apart from the inner large display and the cover display when folded.
Samsung has so far been on a rollercoaster ride this 2020. It experienced a decline in sales brought about by the pandemic. However, the company remained resilient as it pushed forward with the releases of its premium flagship phones.
This year, Samsung released the Samsung Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Z Fold 2, and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G. All these phones comprise the company’s most cutting-edge devices. It is on these devices that Samsung pours all of its efforts in pushing developments further.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 garnered several applause from tech reviewers because of making up to its predecessor’s flaws. Nevertheless, it seems like Samsung isn’t resting on its laurels after this success. A recent patent shows what could be next for the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
Three screens for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3
A Dutch tech site, LetsGoDigital, unsurfaced a patent received by Samsung, particularly for a foldable phone. The patent describes the technology as a LED strip installed on the hinge of the device. The strip will have white, blue, green, and red lights on it. It will be covered by a translucent film or glass to protect.
The released patent doesn’t indicate that the strip will be a full-display screen. However, it reveals that the LED strip can emit mixed-colored lights. In other words, it is actually sort of a screen that can only display colors. It will be reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy Edge phones’ edge features.
These smartphones had curved screens with its edges as the main selling point. Samsung was able to pack so many features on these edges. However, the most rudimentary but useful feature it had was the notification lights emitted from the edges. When the phones are faced down on a surface, the curved glass can signal notifications with light.
The same feature could make a comeback on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 if this ‘third screen’ makes its way to the final product. When the Z Fold phone is put in a bag or rested with the outer screen facing down, the hinge display can be a nifty little tool.
S Pen could be supported on the next foldable from Samsung
Recent rumors indicate that the next Samsung Galaxy S21 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 could support the S Pen. There are many ways to construe this, the strongest of which is that Samsung could finally be doing away with the Note lineup.
If this rumor holds true, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will indeed be the most premium and most stacked phone from the Korean company.
