Adult Swim Games has announced that the Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time game will be officially launching on August 21.
As exclusively confirmed by Adult Swim to IGN, Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time will make its debut on Sony’s PlayStation 4, Microsoft’s Xbox One, Nintendo’s Switch, and Windows PC, by way of the Epic Games Store and Steam, a month from now.
Apart from its exclusive report, IGN also took the opportunity to post an official release date trailer for the game through its YouTube channel.
What to expect
Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time is developed by Soleil, the same game developer studio who also produced the Naruto To Boruto: Shinobi Striker game released back in 2018.
Heavily inspired by the Samurai Jack animated series from Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, the game adopts a 3D hack-and-slash format wherein players can take on the role of the titular samurai character who goes through different time periods, on his way to a final confrontation with the demon Aku.
Apart from the timeline hopping, players will also have to deal with all sorts of bad guys before facing up to Samurai Jack’s shape-shifting mortal foe.
One can say that the game is actually an alternative story to what happens in the last episode of the show’s fifth season.
Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time’s script happens to be written by Darrick Bachman, one of the writers from the original hit cartoon show, and he has made sure to have the main character go through some funny and dramatic moments, while also enjoying access to an arsenal consisting of some bad-ass weaponry.
While it is true that the gameplay is rendered in 3D, the animation and appearance of the game characters, as well as the gameplay environment, keep very close to that of the animated series.
Details of release
According to the exclusive report from IGN, Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time will launch next month with a price of $39.99.
But as noted by ComicBook.com, the $39.99 price and August 21 release date will be for the digital version of the game.
Earlier this month, however, Gematsu had reported that Limited Run Games is planning to release a physical version of Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time.
The physical versions listed will be for Nintendo Switch and Sony PlayStation 4. As for the release date, Limited Run Games has not confirmed any schedule yet.
