The San Antonio Spurs will be entering the NBA restart with the odds stacked against them and its an opportunity for their young players to step up.
July 30 will be whirlwind of a day for the NBA. The majority of the focus will be on the first-day experience of players and fans with the adjusted season. However, each team and players have their own goals for the short eight-game seeding period.
This reality holds especially true for the San Antonio Spurs. They are now placed outside looking in the Playoffs, and their odds of moving up the ladder are slim.
The focus of San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs are still finding its groove following the retirement of their big 3 and the departure of Kawhi Leonard. At present, their floor leaders are veterans DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldrige. The rest of the team are young high-ceiling players that still have to prove their worth.
The future of the team rests on the performance of Dejounte Murray, Derrick White, and Bryn Forbes. These three players form the guard-heavy roster of the Spurs. However, they still haven’t performed well enough to earn heavy minutes from Greg Popovich.

Spurs General Manager Brian Wright said that the team ended the first part of the season well with a win over the Dallas Mavericks. However, the suspension of play may have brought rust to his team.
“guys haven’t been playing basketball for three months. So, there is going to be a focus on making sure we’re keeping our guys healthy and how we best do that.”
He added,
“We want to go play well. We want to go compete. We want to finish the season strong. But we’re also going to keep in mind the health and safety of our players and everybody as we return.”
Spurs’ situation in the West
The San Antonio Spurs have their legacy to play for in the NBA restart. They are four games behind the Memphis Grizzlies for the eight spot. Should they not win enough games in the regular season’s final eight games, they will snap 22 years of consecutive appearance in the Playoffs.
Their climb up to the final 8th spot in the West will not be a stroll in the park. They will have to face hungry young teams in the Grizzlies and the Pelicans. Also, the Trailblazers will not go easy on just letting the Spurs go past them.
