Neve Campbell revealed she’s now in talks to appear in Scream 5. The 46-year-old is part of the movie’s original cast of characters, along with Courteney Cox and Drew Barrymore.
In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes through the Five Favorite Films, the Canadian actress revealed they’re now having conversations about the movie. “I have been approached about it,” she said.
The Wild Things star first played the role of the high school teenager, Sidney, in the original 1996 movie Scream. However, she finds the time of doing Scream 5 a bit challenging today due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“You know, we only started the conversation maybe a month and a half ago,” Neve Campbell added. “So it’s going to take some time to figure out how it’s all going to work out.” As they are now still in negotiation, it remains to be seen what will happen.
Scream 5 directors, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett were the ones who reached out to The Craft star with a letter about the late director, Wes Craven. They said that as he serves as their inspiration, they want to give him a tribute through this film.
“That meant a great, great deal to me,” Neve Campbell said about the plan. “So, we’ll see. Hopefully, we can all see eye to eye on the project and find a way to make it.”
She also said that she’s grateful for the movie series and loved her character, Sidney. So, if ever the project comes to fruition, she’ll like to step back in her shoes. It’s also fun for her to see the original cast reunite, do another Scream movie, and try it to be a good one.
It’s not the first time that Neve Campbell talked about the possibility of doing Scream 5. In a now-deleted YouTube video of her interview with Jake Hamilton, as noted by People, she talked about doing another installment of the franchise without its original director.
“I originally had been really apprehensive about doing another Scream without Wes,” she said. “Because he was such a genius, and he is the reason they are what they are.”
However, with the new directors’ great appreciation for Wes Craven’s work, Neve Campbell may now do Scream 5. “They really want to honor it. That meant a lot to me. Hopefully, we’ll be able to do it,” she said.
