Sega Mascot Alex Kidd is making a coming back in his new game Miracle World DX. The original Sega mascot from the ’80s ended his 30 years of absence with the new release.
Miracle World DX came as an announcement on the first day of the Summer of Gaming event. The new game will be a remake of the original Alex Kidd in Miracle World released in 1986 for the Sega Master System.
For the uninitiated, Alex Kidd originally came built-in and bundled with the Master System.
Miracle World remake adds new features to original game
In the official Miracle World remake trailer by Merge Games and Jankenteam, the game received a snazzy facelift. The game looks super cute in its distinct pixel art, which has all the hallmarks of a classic Alex Kidd title.
Players can go up the mountains, get power-ups, and use the classic motorcycle that Alex Kidd rides. The game is not only a 1:1 remake of the original levels, but Miracle World is also getting more enhancements.
The game’s new trailer promises that additional levels will go into the remake. New levels will give players a chance to get new experiences with the title. It also modernizes how the game plays with tighter controls.
Some extra added features include a new retro mode that lets players smoothly play the original Miracle World for the Master System. As the game came built-in with the system, many players are unable to play the original without resorting to piracy.
Overall, the Alex Kidd in Miracle World remake looks more modest. Compared to the Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap from a few years ago, the remake is much more fundamental.
Alex Kidd franchise was Sega’s original mascot
Miracle World DX is a small but strong remake that puts a beloved classic back on display. Alex Kidd was the original mascot for Sega and was pit against Mario during the 8-bit era of gaming.
Around this time, Mario was the more popular mascot between the two. Even then, the Alex Kidd franchise was the more technical game. Miracle World offered gameplay that was unheard of in Mario until the SNES Super Mario games.
For starters, Alex Kidd was able to move around in a wider range of motion than Mario. He can go left and right without having the world scroll permanently right. Such movement offered more exploration and more secrets.
Miracle World DX will come out in the first quarter of 2021. The game will come out for PC. It is also expected to be released on other consoles in the future as well.
