Selena Gomez got her fans worried when she made an appearance on Instagram Live with an IV in her arm.
Selena Gomez was diagnosed with lupus a few years back and even underwent kidney surgery. Her fans were worried when they saw her with an IV in her arm. They were wondering if the Wolves singer is sick again.
Selena Gomez scared her fans
Selena Gomez appeared on an Instagram Live with friends Timothee Chalamet on Oct. 24. The viewers quickly noticed an IV in her arm and many took screen grabs and wished her well on Twitter.
“Praying for selena’s health and i really hope she’s doing well. I cant imagine what it is like to live with such a terrible autoimmune disease. sending you so much love and hugs @selenagomez,” one tweeted.
Meanwhile, another fan speculated that Gomez is sick, and that’s probably the reason the first-time voter didn’t cast her ballot in person.
“It’s the fact that selena said she wanted to vote in person and couldn’t ‘for certain reasons’ and then we see she’s being medicated for lupus in her room,” the Twitter user wrote.
Gomez didn’t address the speculations about her health, but fans shouldn’t worry too much. Also, she said earlier that she didn’t cast her vote in person to take caution due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Selena’s illness revisited
Selena Gomez has been suffering from lupus, a systemic autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system attacks the body’s own tissues and organs.

“She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis,” she wrote on Instagram.
She also explained to her fans that she stopped promoting her music because she learned that she needed to get a kidney transplant due to lupus. It was necessary for her overall health. She also thanked her family and the team of doctors who worked with her prior to and post-surgery.

I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery. And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis. Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made. Gomez’s struggles with lupus
Selena Gomez’s battle with lupus wasn’t easy, and her story brought awareness about the autoimmune disease. Everyday Health compiled what Gomez went through that gave the public more understanding about the illness.
Apparently, kidney transplant is a common complication for those suffering from lupus. The condition could also affect one’s mental health, especially on how they perceive themselves. It affects their works and their relationships.
It can affect the central nervous system, and common side effects include headaches and dizziness. Serious side effects include seizures and strokes. Gomez also got chemotherapy for the said condition and only opened up about it when she was confident and comfortable talking about it.
Gomez keeps a healthy lifestyle to limit lupus flares. She maintains a healthy “diet, routine, and medication.”
