Selena Gomez bravely opened up about her struggles and experiences with countless attacks on her personal life over social media.
To mark the celebration of World Mental Health Day, the former Disney star breaks her silence as she details the challenges she faced dealing with online hate.
The “Lose You to Love Me” songstress admitted that she previously deleted social media apps on her phone for the sake of her sanity.
“I’m very vocal about technology. I have not, personally, for two years had any social media on my phone – though I use the platform, I make sure I approve things I want to write – but I don’t look at it. It’s not on my phone,” she mentioned as she talks with former Surgeon General of the United States, Dr. Vivek Murphy.
In addition, the 28-year-old Texas-born star pointed out that despite the information that the public receives from the internet, it is also the reason behind the “increased loneliness and disconnection” among the people.
Selena Gomez’s experience on social media detox
Gomez went on and shared that sometimes she gets affected by harsh words she receives online and even came to the point that she doubted herself.
However, she learned to deal with it by veering away from negative things, and the first step is to delete social media apps.
“Every day I woke up and was like, why am I doing this? If I constantly think I’m doing something wrong or they think I’m this sell-out, they feel like I’m not authentic? Which is every part of my being. These words hurt, and they add nothing to my life. The truth is, they’re lies. That was how I handled it by saying I’m going to step out. I noticed a change to the things with what I was posting. I was very on-trend with the whole ‘pretty stuff’ posts.”

This is not the first time that Selena Gomez spoke about online hate and how she wanted to keep her private life off the radar.
Sending love and positivity amid global chaos
Back in August, the “Princess Protection Program” star took to Instagram as she explained why she has been MIA for the past weeks and revealed why she was so hesitant to share her life out in the open.
Amid the global pandemic and uproar of the public regarding political and social issues, Gomez mentioned that she had taken the “time to learn about what’s going on” and continues to prioritize essential things such as sending positivity and love to her millions of followers.
