Selena Gomez proudly showed off her scar in a post on Instagram, saying, “all bodies are beautiful.”
Selena Gomez shared a photo of herself wearing a one-piece swimsuit with a front-zip closure, giving a full view of her scar. Three years after her operation, the 28-year-old star revealed she had now found the confidence to show it to the public.
People praised Gomez’s bravery
Gomez promoted the new swimwear line of her friend, Theresa Marie Mingus, called La’Mariette. Here, she celebrated her scar after the emergency procedure she underwent following her kidney transplant in 2017.
The singer-songwriter looked stunning with her one leg propped up on a rock to show the scar on her inner thigh. She also gave a full view of her prayer hands tattoo on her other leg.
“When I got my kidney transplant, I remember it being very difficult at first showing my scar,” she captioned the snap. “I didn’t want it to be in photos, so I wore things that would cover it up.”
Now, after three years, she is ready to show what she has been through.
“Now, more than ever, I feel confident in who I am and what I went through,” she continued. “And I’m proud of that.”
She then congratulated Mingus for her work.
“T – Congratulations on what you’re doing for women, launching @lamariette whose message is just that…all bodies are beautiful,” she ended.
The photo now has more than 11 million likes and over 100,000 comments as of this writing. Her fans, followers, and even famous friends celebrated her post and praised her bravery.

Gomez’s kidney transplant
Gomez underwent a kidney transplant after her friend, Francia Raisa, donated her organ to the “Ice Cream” hitmaker.
In an interview with Today, Gomez revealed the said procedure was a matter of “life or death” for her.
The move was part of her fight against lupus, an autoimmune disease that attacks the kidneys. She also underwent chemo to treat the illness.
“The thought of asking somebody to do that was really difficult for me,” she revealed. “Let alone somebody wanting to volunteer. It is incredibly difficult to find a match.”
Gomez found a match in Raisa, and it was unbelievable and not real for her.
“I had to write a will, which was scary. Because there was no guarantee you’ll wake up,” she continued. “As soon as I got the kidney, my arthritis went away.”
Now, Selena Gomez’s lupus only has a three to five percent chance to come back.
