Warner Bros. Pictures recently confirmed that Shazam 2 would happen. Ross Butler will reportedly have a bigger role in the sequel.
Shazam 2 writers will reportedly expand the role of Ross Butler in the upcoming DC Extended Universe film. This will give the young American actor a longer appearance on the screen in the next movie.
Butler plays the adult superhero form of Eugene Choi (played as a young boy by Ian Chen). The character is the younger foster brother of Billy Batson (Asher Angel, Zachary Levi).

In the movie, the ancient wizard Shazam (Djimon Hounsou) chose Billy to be his champion. This led to him becoming the superhero Shazam.
The first Shazam movie became a surprise success for Warner Bros. Pictures last year. It earned US$366 million worldwide with a production budget of $100 million.
What could happen in Shazam 2
Ever since the Shazam sequel was announced, Warner Bros. Pictures and the DC Extended Universe remained tight-lipped about the project.
So far, it looks like lead stars Asher Angel and Zachary Levi will return for the sequel. It is still unclear right now as to which comic book the sequel will be adapted from.
In a recent interview, director David F. Sandberg expressed his confidence in creating the upcoming sequel. According to him, he hopes to have more fun when filming for the movie starts. He also teased that the movie’s writing team is in the process of revising the script.
Filming for Shazam sequel delayed
Filming for the Shazam sequel will most likely not be happening this year. COVID-19 concerns bar the cast and crew of the DC Extended Universe film from the set.
According to a report, the industry-wide production shutdown will also delay other upcoming DC films. This includes the Robert Pattinson-starring The Batman. The new Batman movie was in the middle of shooting when the shutdown happened.
Upcoming projects of Ross Butler
Apart from the Shazam sequel, Ross Butler has a few other upcoming projects. This makes him one of the busiest Asian-American actors in Hollywood at the moment.
Butler will return to the fourth and final season of 13 Reasons Why later this year. He plays Zach Dempsey on the Netflix teen series. He will also play the lead role in the Quibi series Swimming with Sharks.
Shazam 2 will be in theaters on Friday, November 4, 2022. Ross Butler, on the other hand, recently appeared on To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You.
