She-Hulk, the upcoming Marvel and Disney+ TV series, will be a “half-hour legal comedy,” according to Marvel boss Kevin Feige.
Preparations are underway for the production of She-Hulk with a target principal photography scheduled for March 2021 in Georgia, Atlanta. Head writer Jessica Gao finished the script during the lockdown in May.
Feige confirmed in the latest release of Emmy magazine that this show will be tackling a genre that has not been done for Marvel TV before. The series, however, will still take points from the work of John Byrne.
According to The Direct, Byrne changed the character’s depiction from the comic’s first release made by Dan Slott in the early 1980s. Jennifer Walters and the character’s alter-ego became more than just a copy of Bruce Banner/The Incredible Hulk.
Byrne also introduced elements where She-Hulk breaks the fourth wall way before Deadpool did.
Cast confirmation and Ruffalo’s return
Marvel announced during the Disney Investor Day event in December that Orphan Black actress Tatiana Maslany won the role of Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk. Deadline initially reported that Maslany was cast in the exciting role in September, but the actress denied the report and said that things are still under negotiations.
But Feige confirmed the lead role’s casting as well as the return of Mark Ruffalo in this Disney+ show. The actor will reprise his role as The Avengers’ Bruce Banner/Hulk, the main character’s cousin.
Tim Roth will also be back as the villain Emil Blonsky/Abomination. The actor last played this character in the 2008 movie The Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton as the titular character.
Since Walters works as a lawyer, Feige also said that she will cross paths with some characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The Marvel boss described some of these encounters as “comedic.”

Red-Hulk rumors abuzz
Rumors suggest that Liv Tyler is in talks with Marvel to reprise her role as Betty Ross from the same 2008 film. Her character could potentially depict an alter-ego as well in the Red She-Hulk. Fans say that this was part of the plan for Hulk’s solo movie during Phase One of the MCU, which never panned out.
In the comic books, Betty became Red She-Hulk after a resurrection from MODOK and the Leader. Betty’s father, Thunderbolt Ross, allied with the group. The father and daughter team both went through the same process to acquire their powers.
More details about She-Hulk should be out once production begins. Disney+ plans to release the series in 2022.
