Mike Sutton told Michael Roman of the Everything Always channel that Brie signed her contract with Marvel Studios to play She-Hulk, the Incredible Hulk’s emerald-green cousin.
Marvel hasn’t made the official announcement, but Sutton claimed his source is the same insider who told him about Brie Larson. Marvel boss Kevin Feige discussed Captain Marvel with the actress after her Best Actress win at the Oscars. A year later, Larson was on board the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Rumors of Brie’s casting has been going on for months, but this latest scoop comes as the actress told The Hollywood Reporter in late July that she follows She-Hulk updates.
“It is always funny to me when something kind of takes off on the internet, and I’m getting my updates from fans tagging me in things on Instagram,” the actress said. “I’m like, ‘Oh, interesting. Oh, people are still talking about it. That’s cool.'”
Scripts to the She-Hulk TV series are done, according to writer Dana Schwartz. Production was originally set for summer, but Marvel has grounded most of its set due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Marvel won’t likely confirm Brie’s casting announcement until the start of production.
Fans of the MCU would like Ruffalo to appear in the She-Hulk TV series and reprise his role as Bruce Banner, and his alter ego, the Hulk. The actor said in a Variety interview that there are discussions with Marvel, but the deal is not yet done.
Comic book fans, however, said that the She-Hulk comics strictly doesn’t expound on the relationship between the Hulk cousins. However, Marvel Studio might have different plans with the TV series iteration considering the popularity of Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk.
She-Hulk is Jennifer Walters, described as an intelligent lawyer with a bubbly personality and wit. In the original comic source, Jennifer goes through an emergency blood transfusion, courtesy of her cousin, after a crime boss shot her.
As with the Incredible Hulk, much of She-Hulk’s form will be CGI on the show. However, Jennifer retains much of her personality in the comics, except for her emerald-green skin and super strength. It’s unclear, however, if this will be the same trajectory of the TV series character.
Disney+ plans to premiere the series sometime in 2022.
