The Los Angeles Clippers could potentially square up with the Dallas Mavericks in the first round if the standings remain the same.
Both the Eastern and Western Conference standings are expected to remain the way they are except for some seeding changes. As such, analysts are weighing in on the potential matchups for the first round. All eyes are set for the Los Angeles Lakers’ matchup with whoever comes out as the eighth seed.
However, attention is also being given on how the Clippers will perform in its first Playoffs with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in their lineup.
Los Angeles Clippers Playoffs test
The Clips will enter the postseason as the second most stacked team after the Lakers. As such, they are seen as a legitimate threat in the West. The duo of Leonard and George hasn’t hit its full potential with only a little sample size during the regular season. They will look to develop such one-two punch in the eight seeding games they will play.
If the Clippers do not change their second seed standing, they will face the Dallas Mavericks in the first round. This matchup will be one to see considering the firepower involved in the two teams. Stephen A. Smith has this duel going the way of the Clippers. However, he believes that the Mavs will not go down without a fight.
Luka and Porzingis deadly duo
Luka was an MVP-candidate before the season ended abruptly. He showed just how much influence and skill he has to lead the Mavs after Dirk retired. Luka wasn’t alone on this journey. He is paired with Kristaps Porzingis to be the anchor in the paint.
The seven-foot three Latvian hasn’t regained his form in his Knicks. However, he has shown a glimpse of what skills he has developed over the prolonged rest. The big man can defend the paint and shoot from the perimeter with ease.
Clippers versus the Mavericks
The two powerhouse teams from the West will give an exciting preview for a potential Lakers versus Clippers team. Luka doesn’t give off the vibe and dominance of Lebron James, but he is dominant in his way. George, Leonard, and Patrick Beverly will have to find a way to control Doncic in his scoring prowess.
Porzingis, on the other hand, will be a good litmus test to the small ball lineup of the Clippers. Kristaps has a skill set similar to that of Anthony Davis. As such, Montrezl Harrel and the recently acquired Joakim Noah will have to figure out how to adjust to Kristaps.
