According to Shroud, the so-called king of FPS, he fancies games that take actual skills like Apex Legends over “casual” games like Warzone.
As one of the biggest names in gaming today, and as a renowned FPS player, Shroud‘s opinions on FPS games hold a lot of bearing. And when it comes to FPS games, there are only a few games more popular than Call of Duty: Warzone and Apex Legends.
While both Warzone and Apex Legends are FPS games, the two games are far from identical. And for Shroud, whose real name is Michael Grzesiek, there is an obvious difference between the two that makes one more enjoyable to play than the other.
Warzone not as fun as Apex Legends
In a recent stream, Shroud (stylized as shroud) gave his honest opinion as to why Apex Legends is a better battle royale game for him. This, of course, is compared to Call of Duty: Warzone.
Fans of the former Counter-Strike: Global Offensive pro know that he prefers tactical games such as Valorant. However, the 26-year-old likes to play battle royale games from time to time. But between Apex Legends and Warzone, Shroud says that he prefers the former.
The biggest similarity that the two games have apart from both being battle royales is their meteoric rise to fame. Respawn’s battle royale is a year older than Activision’s.
When Respawn released Apex last year, the game garnered around over 50 million players in just a span of a month. Warzone emulated this feat this 2020 and the two are currently one of the biggest battle royale games out there.
But for Shroud, Apex Legends is the better game because it requires more skill and effort to play. Apparently, the Call of Duty battle royale is not as fun to play due to its more casual nature.
During the stream, fans asked to try and play Modern Warfare’s Search and Destroy mode, which is a more tactical version of Warzone, saying it’s “fun as heck.”
Shroud immediately refuted this claim saying that it’s actually not fun, at least for him.
Not his style
The Twitch star says he understands why Warzone is more popular than Apex Legends. However, the former is just not his style. And this is all because of the difficulty levels in both games.
“Warzone isn’t really my style, you know?” says Shroud. “While it is fun from time to time … it’s not particularly my fancy. I don’t fancy it. I fancy games like CS, Valorant, Apex — games that take some skill.”
Too casual for Shroud
Shroud didn’t really explain why Apex Legends is a more difficult and challenging game to play. But the streamer’s claim to fame is his nearly unmatched skill in FPS games, especially tactical shooters. Because of this, it’s that not really all that surprising why he would prefer the complexity of Apex Legends’ range of abilities.
According to him, Warzone is more popular because it is under the established Call of Duty franchise. More than that, the battle royale’s casual nature is more appealing to a wide range of audiences. But a former FPS pro like Shroud would definitely go for the more challenging game.
