Siren just capped off its third season and now fans are wondering if it’s going to live on to another one. Will the mermaid-themed drama series get a season 4?
Siren season 3 just aired its finale episode titled “The Toll of the Sea.” And like most series, it ended with a cliffhanger and questions unanswered.
But the biggest question now is if it’s even going to be renewed for a fourth season.
Low ratings
Freeform’s fantasy drama series first premiered in 2018. It follows the story of coastal town Bristol Cove which is known for its legend of once being home to mermaids and mermen for centuries.
The legend became a reality when a mysterious girl named Ryn (Eline Powell) appeared out of nowhere and started wreaking havoc.
Her older sister Donna, who is a mystical and deceptively powerful mermaid, was captured and taken hold by the military. Marine biologists Ben (Alex Roe) and Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola) then helped Ryn with her mission.
The show was warmly welcomed and loved by fans and critics when it first dropped in 2018. But according to Bustle, there has been a significant drop in ratings. Season 3 of Siren dropped 13% in viewership from season 2.
However, it’s noted that it remains to be the network’s highest-rated original series. It’s above shows like Good Trouble, which has already been renewed.
So there’s a good chance as well that the series will be given once again a green light for season 4. If it does get renewed, then it’s expected to drop sometime in 2021.
What to expect in season 4?
The season finale episode centered on saving Hope (Alix West Lefler) and the entire town from being wiped away by Tia (Tiffany Lonsdale) and her mermaid tribes.
Tia was fighting to make humans disappear from the face of the earth. And though it seemed at first that Tia has the upper hand, Ryn surprised her with a bigger army.
The battle started and it was nothing short wild, bloody, and intense. In the end, Ryn and her squad won against Tia who ended up killed. And after her body sank into the dark depths, the other mermaids showed devotion to Ryn.
Ben was also able to take advantage of the war by infiltrating Tia’s underwater prison. He managed to save Hope and bring her to safety.
But it came with some troubles as he was caught by the mer-guards. He tried battling his way out but the final shots of the finale showed Ben floating in the water.
Season 4 will most likely bring answers to what happened to Ben. Ryn may also be leading the merpeople and the human beings in repairing the damage done in the war.
Aside from that, she may also be training her daughter Hope to fight for herself. Ben’s father Ted will need likely need some time to adjust with his son’s powers. A new villain is also expected.
