Sony has now clarified that Spider-Man Remastered will not come as a standalone title. They note that the only way to get it is through the Ultimate bundle.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will have an ultimate bundle right at launch. The Ultimate Bundle will include the game, with all its DLC and Spider-Man Remastered. In a statement, Sony clarified that the remaster wouldn’t come as a standalone title.
Sony says no standalone remaster for Spider-Man 2018
Sony confirmed that the only way to get the remaster is through its Ultimate bundle. For those buying Miles Morales for the PS4, they can get a PS5 upgrade with no extra cost. Fans can also get an additional “paid upgrade” to get the new Spider-Man.
Even then, fans can’t buy the Remastered copy as it is. Furthermore, while players can enjoy the 2018 copy using backward compatibility, owners can’t get a free upgrade. They can’t get a paid upgrade or buy the remaster separately either.
“Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered is an enhanced version of Marvel’s Spider-Man, and is included as part of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition for the PlayStation 5,” said the statement. “In addition, players who purchase Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PlayStation 4 can upgrade* at no additional cost to the PS5 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and can take advantage of a paid-upgrade to download Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered.
There are no plans currently to offer Marvel’s-Spider-Man: Remastered as a standalone. Players with a copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4 can purchase Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition to experience Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered on PS5. Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4 also will be backwards compatible on PS5.
*Owners of the Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales PS4 game disc can access this offer by inserting the disc into their PS5 console. PS4 game disc owners who buy the PS5 Digital Edition disc-free console will not be able to access this offer.”
Lack of standalone choice for Spider-Man disappointing
The news about Spider-Man Remastered can be disappointing to players. The next-gen Spider-Man: Miles Morales version would be enjoyable. Even then, some people would only want to play the 2018 version.
Giving players a choice wouldn’t be a problem with Sony. Furthermore, The remaster will stay digital anyway, which meant there’s no further publication cost. Recently, Insomniac Games confirmed this detail, together with the lack of save migration.
Sony is also planning to treat the game as a new game. They will add new costumes, trophies, and achievements to it. If that’s the case, Spider-Man Remastered would benefit from becoming a standalone title.
