Sony finally drops PS5 price and release dates; Pre-orders start today

Sony has given the gaming community quite the run of wait for its next-gen console, the PlayStation 5, official price and release dates.

After months of intensive speculations—not to mention a few false alarms here and there—Sony has finally revealed the official PS5 price list. To add, the official dates of release have also been revealed.

PS5 price and dates to remember

The details that the gaming community has long been bugging Sony to reveal were, of course, unveiled in a very climatic approach. At the end of Sony’s PS5 showcase, the price list was flashed.

Officially, the PlayStation 5 will retail at US$499.99[AU$684.45]. For Japan, it’ll be at ¥49,980, while Europe will have it at €499.99. This price tag comes with the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive.

For the PS5 price for the Digital Edition will come at a retail price of US$399.99[AU$547.56]. Accordingly, Japan and Europe will have it at ¥39,980 and €399.99, respectively.

For the PS5 release dates, Sony’s next-gen console will be globally available on November 19. But for “key markets” such as the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea, PS5 will start rolling out on November 12.

In Sony’s blog post, it mentioned that both PlayStation 5 variation will carry the same next-gen gaming experience. An excerpt of the announcement reads:

“Both PS5 models use the same custom processor with integrated CPU and GPU for high-fidelity visuals, including 4K graphics and ray-tracing support, as well as the same ultra-high-speed SSD with integrated I/O for lightning-fast loading. PS5’s 3D audio and the DualSense Wireless Controller will also provide the same heightened sense of immersion on all PS5s.”

Other PS5 accessories and services offered

Furthermore, Sony lists down a new set of accessories aimed to be made available in November, which are:

  • Standalone DualSense™ Wireless Controller – US$69.99[AU$95.81]
  • PULSE 3D™ wireless headset – with 3D audio support and dual noise-canceling microphones at US$99.99[AU$136.88]
  • HD Camera – with dual 1080p lenses for gamers to broadcast themselves along with their epic gameplay moments at US$59.99 [AU$82.12]
  • Media Remote – to navigate movies and streaming services with ease at US$29.99[AU$41.05]
  • DualSense™ Charging Station – to conveniently charge two DualSense Wireless Controllers at US$29.99[AU$41.05]

It is very important to note, Sony has also dropped another surprise bomb after the PS5 showcase. As early as today, September 17, pre-orders now start rolling out at selected retailer outlets.

Meanwhile, according to Android CentralSony’s gaming rival, Microsoft’s Xbox, will kick off its pre-order window on September 22.
