McDonald’s has to step back from rolling out its food-themed McDualSense controller, due to Sony’s protest.
The fast-food chain restaurant is celebrating another year in the business this calendar year in Australia. Basically, its 50th year since arriving on the continent. To celebrate the momentous occasion, McDonald’s Australia has planned out a campaign which promises a bespoke PS5 controller to its lucky customers.
Dubbed the McDualSense controller, it features a DualSense controller with a unique set of paint onto it. Particularly, highlighting the typical yellow and red colors commonplace to the brand, along with other hues. But making also a notable presence is the company’s own logo around the middle top of the controller.
Sadly, Cancelled
Due to the uniqueness of its design and its giveaway nature, it takes a lucky few to get their hands on it. Fittingly, also a cause of envy by those within the gaming community who wouldn’t get ahold of the prize in any way. However, this notion seems to no longer be valid as Sony steps in and asks McDonald’s to forfeit the initiative.

The effort originally engages willing participants on a series of Macca’s streams for an entire week, beginning Sunday. But limited in stocks for the giveaway, only 50 individuals will call themselves the fortunate recipients of the prize.
Official Statement
In an article by Press Start, it claims that the event meant to conduct the giveaway on Sunday was postponed. It particularly highlights Sony PlayStation’s non-authorization over the use of the controller for the promo. Subsequently, explicitly stating how the controller will no longer be a part of the stream event. But, also, sends out an apology for the “inconvenience caused”.
Although not canceled altogether, it’s said to be offering a different giveaway instead. As per the official statement, the new prizes will include “Macca’s 50th Birthday Hoodies and 50 channel subscriptions”. Although, the date when the giveaway will roll out remains uncertain at this point.
Given the image of the said controller floating on the internet, not to mention the now-passed event, it’s ostensive that the controllers were already made. It is just a matter of making them available to the hands of the lucky few, should the event have pushed through. However, given that’s not the case, it only becomes a mystery as to where the custom controllers will land to. Though it will not be surprising to them suddenly popping out of the blue and selling for thousands down the line.
