Sony’s first flagship offering was announced back in February with a hint at hitting the store shelves in the second quarter of 2020.
Less than three months after it debuted internationally, the Sony Xperia 1 II is now tipped to arrive later this month. Sony’s Spanish arm, through its Twitter account, revealed that the hotly-anticipated premium smartphone from the Japanese tech giant would indeed be coming to Europe accordingly.
A Daft Name With Top-Notch Display
Despite its mouthful name at the time of its announcement, Sony Xperia 1 II already gained significant traction for its display and design offerings alone.
The Sony Xperia 1 II features a tall and skinny 21:9 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED display, which should very well delight the on-the-go cinephiles out there.
Sony has also equipped Corning Gorilla Glass 6 and HDR BT.2020 on the phone’s display.
The Sony Xperia 1 II also supports the Sub-6 GHz 5G spectrum, which indicates that the phone can cover broader reception for the said connectivity.
And while 5G could still be away from being the default everyday network for some, those who are gaming, multitasking, and downloading content at the same time can benefit from it.
Sony’s Market-Leading Cameras
The Sony Xperia 1 II boasts a sophisticated quadruple-camera setup on its rear. The system features a trio of 12MP sensors, which tackle wide, telephoto, and ultrawide features, respectively. There is also a 0.3MP TOF 3D module, which is used for depth-sensing.
Meanwhile, the Sony Xperia 1 II’s narrow bezel on its front houses an 8MP front-facing wide camera.
A Phone That Is Also Geared for Gaming
The Sony Xperia 1 II might lack the sought-after high display refresh rate, but Sony didn’t join the competition without some selling points. The phone’s 21:9 display is one, plus its ability to connect to the PS4’s DualShock 4 controller.
Additionally, the Sony Xperia 1 II is equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack. Other notable features include a wireless Hi-Res audio and the 360 Reality Audio.
As a proper Sony Xperia flagship, you can only expect the phone to come with top-of-the-line internals. As it is, the phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 chipset and is coupled with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS storage. The device also works on a 4,000mAh battery with 21W fast charging.
The Sony Xperia 1 II is confirmed with a retail price tag of EUR 1,200 for its 8GB/256GB memory configuration. It will retail in two color variants – Black and Purple.
