The actual title of Spider-Man 3, starring Tom Holland, is reportedly out in the press. According to reports, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures may have quietly revealed the third film’s official title in the latest issues of magazines like Esquire and Maxim.
Spider-Man 3 intends to start production later this year after Holland completes his commitment in the Uncharted movie adaptation. Sony will likely announce the updates about the superhero sequel before the start of filming. However, avid fans remain eager for new information about the upcoming third movie.
Enter Murphy’s Multiverse speculation that Spider-Man 3’s official title is Spider-Man: Homesick. The site allegedly made the conclusion based on the two publications that printed the title for their round-up of movie release schedule changes due to the coronavirus pandemic. It’s also the same title used in the pre-production of the movie in Atlanta.
Why it’s called Spider-Man: Homesick
Spider-Man: Homesick makes sense to some fans following the events of the second movie Spider-Man: Far From Home. Peter Parker ended up being a wanted man, and his secret identity is now known to the world.
Fans also speculated that the Spider-Man 3 might be called Homeless or Home Run as Peter stays away from the friends and family he wants to protect. Allegedly, while Peter is in hiding and working on clearing his name, Kraven The Hunter will be tracking him down.
Marvel boss Kevin Feige said in a 2019 interview that the third movie would bring Spidey in “his own element.” It’s possible he could be “homesick” without any help from Tony Stark or the rest of the Avengers.
“[He’s] now facing his own challenges that aren’t coming from Avengers fighting,” Feige said. “It’s all Peter focused and Peter based.”
Sony’s Amy Pascal also said during the second movie’s promotion that they plan to continue the trend of adding “home” to the official title. The first movie was called Homecoming.
Why the third film’s title won’t be Homesick
However, a report from The Direct stated that Spider-Man 3 might not be called Homesick after all. The news outlet said that the official title remains online speculation after Maxim‘s writer confirmed they didn’t get the information from the studio. An editor from Esquire also said that its writer likely based Homesick on a rumor as well.
Titles in this superhero franchise are a big deal to passionate Spider-Man fans. The second film also went through the same speculative stories for months before Sony and Marvel officially confirmed the title.
Spider-Man 3 is expected to be in theaters at the end of 2021.
