For a limited period, Square Enix is encouraging lapsed players of Final Fantasy XIV to get back into the game for eight days free of charge—but there are conditions that must be met.
Dubbed the ‘Free Login Campaign,’ the event, while in effect, gives players free playtime in the game. The initiative was reportedly in operation since April 2020 and is slated to end on May 17, 2020.

As tempting as the idea of playing a game without costing a penny, Square Enix has some requirements to qualify for the event.
The conditions include that the player must be a legitimate owner of the Final Fantasy XIV and must be inactive for at least 30 days. If the person is an owner of multiple accounts, such individual must have all accounts inactive for 30 days.
Until the expiration of the campaign, players who meet the aforementioned conditions are at liberty of playing the game without charge.
Crisis-led Campaigns
At the get-go, it is quite easy why Square Enix is launching this campaign. Primarily, to lure back Square Enix pre-existing subscription players into the game and subsequently generate profit in the process.
A company as big as this Japanese company needs its money to continue operating, especially in the middle of a crisis.
Time is running out to pick up four great titles in our @Steam #StayHomeAndPlay JRPG Collection. With 100% of Square Enix revenue going to charities, now is a great time to help make a difference while enjoying these unique adventures. https://t.co/HStGK7beF3 pic.twitter.com/GYSDKt7VI1

Another reason is due to the company’s ‘Stay at Home and Play Game’ campaign. Individuals who were up to speed with the campaign would recall Square Enix giving away games free, in addition to rolling out massively discounted sales.
Just recently, the company launched a sale to four of its most popular JRPGs at a heavily discounted price in light of the campaign.
For a ‘Good’ Cause
The appeal of the initiative is not only for freebie-lovers and bargain hunters. It also applies towards the generous spirits amid the crisis as well. This is due to the campaign’s goal of setting the proceeds from the sales to unfortunate victims of the ongoing pandemic via charities.
To the unaware, the company’s charity acts also pose great marketing to its audiences. While, instead of free, Square Enix is still giving away its money through its said campaigns, it has its long-lasting impact on many.
Primarily, by putting the company on the good side of many, Square Enix is making emotional investments to those who cannot see through the tactics.
However, there is also no denying of the genuine benevolence that comes with the cause.
