Square Enix’s Forspoken is looking to show off their work, pushing their game to show off “the highest quality visuals ever seen in an open world game.”
With an announcement back in 2020, Square Enix’s Forspoken will come straight from Luminous Productions. This will be their debut game but with their knowledge and Square’s backing, they are shooting for the best-looking game out there.
Forspoken came from the original Project Athia
Known as Project Athia, the game originally received a quick reveal of its gameplay. Much of it was showing off a beautiful world that is almost fully interactable. The game was a visual marvel and it seems Luminous wants to be on top of everything.
Luminous will also use their in-house world editor that offers more streamlined terrain and level building. This engine should afford them more expansive options to make the game more aesthetic. The lighting effects are also unbelievably gorgeous.
“Our studio’s philosophy is ‘to create games unlike anything experienced before, fusing the world’ latest technologies with art’,” said Luminous head and general manager Takeshi Aramaki.
“Implementing cutting-edge AMD technology in the development of Forspoken is an embodiment of that philosophy. With Forspoken, we are aiming to achieve the highest quality visuals ever seen in an open world game.”
Luminous Productions is looking to maximize their chances by using AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution. To note, FidelityFX is the much-awaited competition to Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS).
Square Enix will release Forspoken next year
Square Enix’s Forspoken will release next year 2022 bar any delays in the schedule. The game will come out for both PC and the PS5. The game will also stay as a PS-exclusive for consoles for around two years.
“In Forspoken, you’ll play the role of Frey, as she enters Athia for the first time. This new land is stunningly beautiful, but also cruel and deadly,” says the description for the game.
The character actor will be Ella Balinska, known for her works at 2019 Charlie’s Angels. Within the game, her character has the ability to control nature and change the terrain.
“As the first video game I’ve worked on, it’s remarkable to see the incredible world and story of Forspoken come together, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy,” said Balinska.
“Frey as a character is real, she’s raw, she’s a girl who lost her way – both figuratively and literally – and is a character I immediately connected with, as I feel many people around the world will too when they set off on this adventure.”
Square Enix’s Forspoken will come out next year. More news should come out in the months to come.
