The trailer of the second installation of the CG anime film Stand By Me Doraemon has started streaming in the Indonesian cinema chain on Thursday with Indonesian subtitle.
The trailer for the anime Stand By Me Doraemon 2 revealed that Odex’s screening of the film in Indonesia would open on February 19 exclusively in CGV Cinemas.
On November 20, the film finally opened in Japan after being postponed from its original schedule, which was supposedly on August 7. The premiere was delayed due to the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The film sold 305,000 tickets and earned 386 million yen (about US$3.69 million) to rank at #2 in its opening weekend. As of January 31, the film has made a cumulative total of 2,693,514,750 yen (about US$25.68 million).
The second installation with original elements
The film’s story is primarily based on the franchise’s 2000 film Doraemon: Obāchan no Omoide (Doraemon: A Grandmother’s Recollections). However, the story adds original elements. This includes the love story of Shizuka and Nobita that was also present in the last Stand By Me Doraemon film.
On the other hand, the 2000 film, in turn, was based on a chapter from the fourth manga volume.
The directors for the first film, Ryūichi Yagi and Takashi Yamazaki, return for the second season. And once again, Yamazaki penned the script. The film’s theme song, Niji (Rainbow), was performed by Masaki Suda.
As previously divulged by the performer, Doraemon has been part of his life for as long as he can remember. He revealed that Doraemon had given him many laughs, courage, and tears. As per Ishizaki, their song offers a word of thanks. These were the values that are too often forgotten, family, lovers, and friends who are always standing by us.
The first season’s earnings
Stand By Me Doraemon film’s first season was the first 3D CG film in the franchise. In Japan, it eventually earned 8.38 billion yen (about US$77.16 million) and over 10 billion yen worldwide (about US$90 million).
Meanwhile, the franchise’s independent 2D anime film titled Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Shin Kyōryū (Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s New Dinosaur) opened in Japan on August 7. This was after being postponed from its original March 6 opening to curb the spread of COVID-19.
