Developer Aspyr Media announced the new release date for their upcoming Star Wars Episode 1: Racer remaster, following its delay a couple of months back.
Star Wars fans were hit with some disheartening news earlier this year when developer Aspyr Media broke the news that their highly-anticipated remaster of the 1999 classic Star Wars Episode 1: Racer would be delayed indefinitely.
The adrenaline-fueled “podracing” title was initially set for a May 12 launch on the Nintendo Switch, with a PlayStation 4 release following two weeks after.
Fans will be happy to know that the game’s release is finally back on track. In fact, it’s due a lot sooner than most people expected. Aspyr Media took to Twitter on June 16 to excitedly announce Star Wars: Racer’s new launch date, which is on June 23, 2020.

Aspyr’s long history in the gaming industry
The Texas-based video game developer and publisher started out back in 1996, originally making a name for itself porting high-profile Windows games over to the Mac operating system.
Their first project was Tomb Raider 2, which was then under Eidos Interactive, followed by several successful Star Wars titles.
In 2005, Aspyr expanded their repertoire to include the majority of gaming platforms and has since gone on to partner up with some big names, including Gearbox Software, 2K Games, and Activision.
Racer isn’t the only Star Wars remaster that the developer has worked on. They were also responsible for the recent PlayStation 4 and Switch re-releases of the critically acclaimed titles Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast.

Another Star Wars game scheduled for this year
Star Wars gamers are definitely riding high these days, after being treated to last year’s spectacular story-driven action-adventure title Jedi: Fallen Order.
Now, not only is Racer back on track, but publisher Electronic Arts (EA) recently announced another upcoming Star Wars title that’s also being released later this year.
Star Wars: Squadrons is a space shooter/flight simulator with a focus on epic 5v5 multiplayer battles. That’s not to say that there won’t be a solo component, as EA boasted about the game’s all-original story-line, written for Squadrons’ single-player campaign.
The story will take place after the fall of the Empire’s Death Star, and will revolve around the experiences of two pilots from opposing sides.

Star Wars: Squadrons is slated for an October 2, 2020 release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC through Origin Acces, Steam, or the Epic Games Store. EA promised to debut the space shooter’s first-ever gameplay footage on June 18 during the EA Play Showcase.
