Stardew Valley 2 will be a likely future, according to creator Eric Barone. In an interview, he notes that he “would not be surprised” if it exists someday.
Many fans of Stardew Valley are looking forward to the upcoming 1.5 update for the game. The farming sim has a ton of fans, and Barone says everything is on its way. He also teased the potential for a Stardew Valley 2 down the line.
Stardew Valley will stay, says Barone
In the interview, Eric Barone notes he is busy at the moment with the upcoming 1.5 update. The new addition to Stardew Valley is something he worked on since February this year. There’s no word when it will come out or if this will be the last addition to the title.

Barone notes that a 1.6 update is possible, but he does not promise anything. The auteur is still a solo dev for the entire game, who’s busy with many upcoming projects.
“I’m not willing to commit to Stardew Valley 1.6,” says Barone, known as ConcernedApe, in the interview. “I will say that I definitely love Stardew Valley. I love it as a world and a universe. I don’t think [1.5] will be the end of Stardew Valley. I would not be surprised if there’s another Stardew Valley update, or multiple updates, or a Stardew Valley 2. Who knows?
There’s isn’t currently a Stardew Valley 2; after 1.5, I’ll decide what the next step for Stardew Valley is. But I would say there will probably be another step for Stardew Valley. In the meantime, I’m also working on a couple of new projects – solo projects – so I have plenty to do.”
Stardew Valley 2 is the likely next evolution for the hit farming sim
While Stardew Valley 2 is the likely next step for Stardew Valley, it’s hard to gauge interest for it. The sources of inspiration for Stardew Valley are the original Harvest Moon titles – now titled Story of Seasons.
The Story of Seasons franchise has a variety of things they bring to the table. Barone can go and follow their way or another. He can also keep feature-creeping SDV until he as nothing more to add.
What makes Stardew great is its bevy of mod support. Apart from Bethesda games, SDV is among the most moddable titles available. The game can live on even without official updates for a while.
Beyond the potential Stardew Valley 2, Eric Barone hinted at other projects. He noted in the past that he’s working on an SDV spinoff. He says he’s also working on another game that will tie into the Stardew Valley world.
