Steam Game Festival and EA Play Live postponed their festivities, moving it from June 9 back to June 16.
The pushback coincides with industry rescheduling for Black Lives Matter support. The page for the Steam event now received an update to reflect the date adjustment. The Steamworks page for developers also has more details who want to join the fun.
As for EA Play Live, the online event moved to a further date on June 18.
Steam’s Game Festival to offer different demos and showcases
Steam’s Game Festival is a celebration of their amazing video games using demos and dev live events. With E3 and other showcase events missing this year, devs are moving online to exhibit their games.
With Steam, their position as a games distribution platform gives them a unique way to celebrate games. For starters, their developer page allows game devs to set up their limited free trials and demos simultaneously.
If devs have short, playable experiences that can showcase their games, Steam will also have that on offer. Game devs also have a variety of options to drum up more support for their games.
First, game developers can set a quick pitch. This quick pitch describes not only the demo but what the team behind it does. Devs can make the pitch similar to how they’ll do it in a booth on conventions like Pax or GDC.
Another way devs can show off is through Live Stream or Chat Sessions, giving a connection with fans.
EA Play Live moves aside for protest voices
Apart from the Steam Game Festival for summer, EA Play Live is another event coming around the same time. Electronic Arts moved their event to June 18, 7 PM EDT/4 PM PDT.
According to the game publisher’s Twitter account, EA Play Live 2020 is moving to give way to current conversations about social justice and racism.
“With the important conversations taking place and important voices being heard around the world right now, we’re moving our time to come together in play,” said the announcement.
A variety of the events meant for last week moved to another time to accommodate protests. With the political climate becoming more precarious around the world, video game studios are trying to offer better platforms.

The indie showcase Guerrilla Collective moved their event to Saturday, June 13. Their co-collaborators like the PC Games Show and Future Games Show also scheduled the same day.
Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City Wire moved its schedule from June 11 to June 25. The Steam Game Festival will be a solid offering from the internet’s biggest storefront. Fans can enjoy it for an entire week, from June 16 to 22.
