Sega has put up the “Company of Heroes” franchise for free on Steam.
Steam surprised its users upon announcing the “Free Forever Weekend” event. On Saturday, the platform, alongside Sega, put up the Company of Heroes franchise as the center of the sale.
It remains unclear when the event will end. But, Comic Book said that the collaborators have encouraged gamers to download and install the base games over the weekend. Some reports claimed, though, that the offers will conclude on May 31.
Company of Heroes titles free on Steam
The base games that are free on Steam are Company of Heroes 2 and Company of Heroes 2: Ardennes Assault. As the sale page on Steam states, “install now and keep it forever.” It emphasizes, though, that the free installation is only for a limited time.
The platform, alongside the game publisher, did not share any details as to why they are giving away big discounts for the franchise. But, whatever the case, gamers and players are likely in celebration due to the limited-time sale event.

Discounts on expansion and mission packs
On May 29, Sega also released an announcement on social media platforms. As noted, they are running a “huge Steam sale” across the entire Company of Heroes franchise.
Accordingly, apart from the free base games, the publisher also offers massive discounts on expansion and mission packs. This applies, as well, to the bundles and collections.
As announced, the sale event on Steam offers up to 80 percent discounts. While most of the DLCs have 75 percent off on their price tags, the Master Collection bundle, which has six expansion packs, has a 91 percent discount on its overall cost. Instead of spending over $40 on the collection bundle, gamers may now only need to pay less than AU$5.
About the franchise
Company of Heroes is an RTS game set during World War II. It mainly features the players controlling the Soviet Red Army on the Eastern Front, according to Video Games Chronicle.
Relic Entertainment developed the title, which debuted in 2013. The sequel came a year after in November.
Upon its launch, the publication said it scored an average of 80 on Metacritic. While gamers appeared to have received the game positively, many reviewers reportedly pointed out all the inaccuracies in terms of the history included in the entire plot.
THQ was supposed to publish Company of Heroes. However, it filed for bankruptcy in 2012, causing Sega to acquire the developer, along with the IP of the franchise.
