Stranger Things season 4 is in the middle of production in Atlanta and actor Dacre Montgomery might have just teased Billy’s return.
Viewers of Stranger Things last saw Billy in the third season finale. Possessed and no longer recognizable, Billy died as his sister, Max (Sadie Sink), held him in her arms.
But stranger things have happened on this show that his character’s return might not seem impossible.
On Twitter Friday, Montgomery teased a photo of himself fully made up as his Billy character. The actor had Billy’s shaggy hair and trademark bad mustache. He also wore a necklace that’s very much what Billy would wear on the show.

One fan commented that Montgomery also originally tagged a makeup artist from Stranger Things. It’s sparking more speculations that his character could be back from the dead.
Billy was a done deal
In 2019, Montgomery told The Independent that his role on the Netflix series had the ins and outs clearly mapped out. He always knew that Billy will be killed off.
“I knew it was coming in that this was going to be the outcome,” the actor said. “I think because I was on my way out, I was given an amazing opportunity to do a wide array of things. I’m very grateful.”
However, he also admitted suggesting a lot of crazy stuff to the Duffer brothers, the creator of Stranger Things, about his character, including a backstory. It’s likely that he’s in season 4 because of a flashback scene.
Back to the third season finale
A report from Screen Rant cited that a new set photo from Stranger Things season 4 shows Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) wearing the same outfit from last season’s finale. This suggested that the first episode back will either be a flashback or will cover more of where they left off.

As expected, not much is known about the plot of the new season. What’s confirmed, in some hazy detail, is that Hopper (David Harbour) did not die and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) is going to reunite with Mike (Finn Wolfhard) at Hawkins.
However, Montgomery is also in the cast of the Baz Luhrmann Elvis Presley biopic with Tom Hanks. That production is currently filming in Australia, which means it’s impossible for the actor to be in Atlanta on the Stranger Things set. It’s also possible the actor simply posted a throwback photo from his earlier seasons on the set.
It will be a while before fans figure out what’s really happening. Stranger Things season 4 is not expected to launch on Netflix until late 2021.
