Netflix is reportedly hatching a Stranger Things spin-off with the adult versions of the main characters. The dynamic group of Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max will return to Upside Down in the present day.
The original main cast of Stranger Things won’t be high school kids for long. The actors will soon outgrow their awkward phase, which will affect the continuity of the current season. Thus, Netflix is reportedly considering ending the show and planning the spin-off.
According to We Got This Covered, Netflix is in discussion for the follow-up series where the characters are grownups. The spin-off will reportedly bring the group together as the Upside Down “rears its head” again.
The rumor comes from reliable sources within Netflix. The streaming platform is also reportedly planning to end the current season with a big-budget film instead of a season 5.
Season 4 delay is a good thing
Stranger Things season 4 started production at the beginning of the year. The pandemic crisis derailed the schedule, as with most major film and TV productions in Hollywood. The production was able to complete two episodes before the lockdown.
The writers, however, were able to complete the scripts for the season’s nine episodes while in lockdown. Actress Natalia Dyer (Nancy) said that the delay might be a good thing.
“Normally, there’s a kind of ‘writing as we’re going,’ but it seems they’ve had enough time,” the actress said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “I think it’s maybe been a blessing for the writers, in some way, because they had the time to just sit down, think and create.”

Interesting plotline teased for fan-favorite character
While details are generally kept a secret, a report from TV Line stated that a fan-favorite might have an interesting storyline in season 4. Fans think this will involve Erica (Priah Ferguson) based on a Stranger Things comic book spin-off.
Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), figures out that Erica smuggled acid from Russian lab in season 3. She plans to sell the liquid to raise money to buy the new set of Dungeons and Dragons, but Dustin seeks Robin (Maya Hawke) and Steve’s (Joe Keery) help to stop Erica.
Netflix plans to restart the production of Stranger Things season 4 by September, which puts its release schedule sometime in late 2021 or early 2022. Rumor has it that this season could be split into two parts, with the final episodes serving as a finale that will set up the movie. Production is currently casting background actors above 18 years old to play Russian gymnasts.
