Success of ‘Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition’ makes developer consider focusing on series

Share

Monolith Soft has once again made a successful video game, and this time, it’s the remaster of a Wii classic with Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition. As there’s already a huge following behind the Xenoblade Chronicles series, the developer already has their eyes set on a plan for their future titles.

Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition topped the charts in some regions when it launched, and it was one of the best performing titles at launch the developer had. Although Monolith Soft has worked on titles like The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, it seems that they are already intent on capitalizing on the success of their now beloved RPG franchise.

More ‘Xenoblade’ games?

In a recent interview, Monolith Soft head Tetsuya Takahashi says that he would love to add more titles to their company’s portfolio. However, he adds that now might be the perfect time to increase the value of the brand they have created with the Xenoblade series.

This might mean that in the future, Monolith Soft might have more titles from the series. The remaster of the first title, Xenoblade Chronicles, has been a success so far. Many claim the title as yet another definitive RPG experience on the Switch. Its success is brought about by the game’s captivating story and immersive open-world.

While we’ve yet to know what may be next for the developer, fans already have their guesses, and most of it is taken from the extra content in Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition.

Sequel or remaster?

The Future Connect DLC included in the remaster set the tone for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and it finally answered the hanging question about how the two games are actually related. Fans had hoped that the DLC will introduce the third game into the mix but that isn’t entirely bad as they have something else that they want.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is a spin-off title released on the Wii U. Since the game launched during the latter years of the console, it didn’t get as much success as the other titles. It’s a similar story with the first game on the Wii. Despite this, the game got great reviews and it had a huge following behind it. Now, that following wants the spin-off to get a remaster on the Switch as well.

Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition is one of the best games to launch on the Switch this year. For Monolith Soft, it would be wise to take advantage of the hype behind the game and the series in general.
