Suicide Squad movie’s director cut from David Ayer was reported to be coming on HBO Max. But sadly, it is not true.
Suicide Squad had huge public hype for the first attempt in DC Extended Universe to showcase the cinemas’ supervillain team. Excited fans were waiting to see their favorite supervillains fighting for good, but everything did not go as planned.
“Suicide Squad,” an unexpected disaster
Suicide Squad boasted an ensemble cast such as Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman.
The film tasted success at the box office, collecting nearly $700 million worldwide. It got nominated for special effects, makeup, and costume design, and won an academy award for makeup and hairstyling.
But, critics expressed their concerns for not concentrating much on the direction, editing, and screenplay. The movie did not go well with the fans, who felt that it had failed them.
After the critical negative reviews and disappointment of fans, the studio decided to rope in Guardians of The Galaxy director James Gunn to helm the sequel. The film has Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, and Viola Davis from the 2016 movie, with Idris Elba, Pete Davidson, John Cena, Sean Gunn, Mayling Ng, and Alice Braga.
The sequel will be released on August 6, 2021.
Director’s cut
David Ayer, Suicide Squad‘s director, stated that the movie’s final cut was very different from his version.
Ayer himself advocated for fan support to make the movie with his thoughts like the Snyder cut of Justice League. David Ayer even said that the final film did not have his scenes showing story arcs of characters and their dark tone. He even stated that Jared Leto was mistreated by the final theatrical cut of Suicide Squad. It did not portray his acting and potential depth in the movie.
Recently, rumors are around the movie that a David Ayer directorial cut of the Suicide Squad exists. The movie might be released on HBO Max in 2022, after the release of Suicide Squad 2.
However, when a fan asked David Ayer about the rumor, he gave a short reply, stating it was not true.

The Suicide Squad movie’s director cut exists, according to David Ayer, and he stated that it was amazing. He also consoled himself that the movie was a good one, as same as the comic-con trailer. The final product did not have 40 minutes of his director’s cut.
There is no reliable statement regarding the release of Ayer cut, but there is room for hope. Fans guess that HBO Max will decide whether to release the cut or not, depending on how the Justice League Snyder cut’s success. After its release and Suicide Squad 2‘s release, maybe the Ayer cut can come to HBO Max, and it is too early to guess.
