‘Supergirl’ rumors: Melissa Benoist returning for crossovers in Arrowverse

The cancellation of Supergirl after season 6 is not the end for Melissa Benoist. Reports revealed that the actress will still reprise her character for crossovers in the Arrowverse.

The CW confirmed in mid-September that Supergirl will end with season 6. Benoist also posted a long farewell to her followers on social media.

But while viewers of the series might be sad about the show’s upcoming end, Benoist will still apparently don her superhero cape and return as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. The CW’s superhero world still has The Flash and the new Superman & Lois spinoff.

A report from Geekosity cited that Benoist’s return is not yet concrete, but it will “eventually” happen. The news outlet also stated that Kara will leave National City and join the Legion of Super-Heroes with Mon-El (Chris Wood) in the series finale.

The beginning of the end

The cast and crew of Supergirl officially started production for the final season on Sept. 28 in Vancouver, Canada. According to Kryptonsite, the episode counts for season 6 will be shorter for many reasons.

Benoist recently gave birth to her first baby with Wood and might be more eager to focus on raising the child. Reports also suggested that the star is still on maternity leave and will likely join the production later this fall season.

Supergirl season 6 is also set as a midseason series, which usually have shorter episodes. The show will likely have less than 16 episodes, with the production scheduled to end by the first week of April.

Jesse Warn has been tapped to direct the first episode.

To say it has been an honor portraying this iconic character would be a massive understatement. Seeing the incredible impact the show has had on young girls around the world has always left me humbled and speechless. She’s had that impact on me, too. She’s taught me strength I didn’t know I had, to find hope in the darkest of places, and that we are stronger when we’re united. What she stands for pushes all of us to be better. She has changed my life for the better, and I’m forever grateful. I’m so excited that we get to plan our conclusion to this amazing journey, and I cannot wait for you to see what we have in store. I promise we’re going to make it one helluva final season. ♥️ el mayarah 💪 @supergirlcw
