‘Sword and Shield’ features 22 Gigantamax ‘Pokemon’ in June Raid Battles

In addition to the release of the first Sword and Shield DLC, Gigantamax Pokemon are invading Max Raid Battles for the whole month of June.

Pokemon HOME has announced new information about June’s new Pokemon Sword and Shield Max Raid Battle event – and it will be a big one.

Event details

Throughout June, Pokemon Sword and Shield players will be able to encounter 22 unique Gigantamax Pokemon by joining Max Raid Battles.

The month-long event will start on June 2, 2020. Fascinatingly, the start of the event coincides with the announcement of in-depth details about the new Isle of Armor DLC.

Players can partake in the Gigantamax event until June 29, 2020.

Featured Pokemon

In typical fashion, most of the Gigantamax Pokemon will only be available for either Sword or Shield. Because of this, trainers will be forced to trade to be able to get all the 22 Gigantamax Pokemon on one copy of the game.

On another note, only seven existent Gigantamax Pokemon will not be featured in the new Max Raid Battle event. These Pokemon are Pikachu, Eevee, Rillaboom, Inteleon, Meowth, Melmetal, and Cinderace.

During the event, players of both Sword and Shield can catch Gigantamax Snorlax. Additionally, Gigantamax Toxtricity can also be captured on both games.

However, its Amped Form will only be available on Sword, while its Low Key Form will be limited to Shield users.

The following Gigantamax Pokemon will be limited to Sword during the event: Kingler, Garbodor, Appletun, Grimmsnarl, Duraludon, Gengar, Lapras, Corviknight, Centiskorch, and Alcremie.

Meanwhile, this group will only be available for Shield players: Charizard, Machamp, Drednaw, Flapple, Hatterene, Butterfree, Orbeetle,Coalossal, Sandaconda, and Copperajah.

Event advantages

Competitive players will certainly have to look for other Gigantamax Pokemon to add to their roster during this event. Luckily, all of the featured Pokemon are allowed in tournaments according to the VGC rules and regulations.

Some of the top Pokemon included in the pool include Charizard and Lapras. The G-Max Wildfire from Charizard can provide strong Fire damage as well as drain the life of opponents in a couple of turns.

By the end of the fourth turn, the burnt Pokemon will have its life diminished by two-thirds just by the burn damage alone.

On the other hand, Lapras’s Gmax move, Resonance, can burst out high Ice damage as well as set up an Aurora Veil. The Aurora Veil coming from a Gigantamax Pokemon doesn’t require hail to work.
