Banda Namco’s Tales of series has been on a slump lately, and it’s most successful release of late was Tales of Vesperie: Definitive Edition, – a remaster. When Tales of Arise was revealed, fans were very ecstatic, but it seems like the wait for the game will be longer than anticipated.
Tales of Arise was slated to release this year for current-gen consoles. However, it has been a while since fans have heard from Namco about the game. Now that the developers have spoken up, they have some rather sad news for those who are waiting for it.
No longer releasing this year
The developers have recently announced that the game is no longer going to release this 2020. The game’s producer Yusuke Tomizawa recently spoke about the delay of the game.
‘The goal for Tales of Arise is to provide a familiar but innovative gameplay experience to fans of the series while pushing the technical envelope to deliver a high level of graphical quality to impress both long-time players and those who have never played a Tales of game. Development on the title has moved steadily forward in 2020 as we overcame challenges along the way, says Tomizawa.
Tomizawa says that the pandemic has affected some aspects of the game’s development. He does say that the team working on the game tried their best to make ends meet despite the situation. In fact, they have implemented remote development capabilities for their workers.
They have since decided that more time will be needed for them to be able to fully realize what they want for the next Tales of game. For now, there’s no release frame for the title, but more details will arrive when it’s available.
As a way to apologize for the delay, the developers have shared some new artwork of the main characters Alphen and Shionne.
What is the game about
Based on the trailers, the upcoming title will feature the same action-packed gameplay of previous entries in the Tales of series. However, there seems to be a lot of new elements as well, including an open world, and quite possibly some unique combat mechanics akin to the game.
Tales of Arise is going to be one of the most anticipated JRPGs of the next generation. Hopefully, the delay won’t be too long and the game arrives shortly after the release of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
