Taylor Selfridge's MTV baby special not aired after her past racist tweets

Taylor Selfridge is no longer part of MTV. This follows after past racist tweets from the reality star resurfaced recently.

According to Deadline, MTV recently cut ties with Taylor Selfridge who stars in their reality show Teen Mom OG.

The decision to end its relationship with the young mom was based on her racist tweets from 2012. It recently resurfaced in the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests, causing the public to throw a backlash at her.

The tweets, which were compiled by Reddit users last year, were about Black and Asian women. The racist statements were brought to light again by The Blast.

One of the statements read: “We have to greet everyone at work but sometimes I won’t greet the Black people because they scare me.”

Another one says  “My uncle is dating an Asian. Aunt Ping, please make me sushi.”

Selfridge had addressed the matter in Teen Mom OG season 8. In fact, Cheyenne Floyd, Cory Wharton’s first baby mama, confronted her about it.

The new mom apologized about it and the two moved on to be friends.

MTV’s statement

Despite the tweet being eight years old already, MTV took action to the controversy by canceling Teen Mom OG At Home: Cory & Taylor’s Baby Special. It was supposed to air on June 9 but it never came.

“MTV pulled Teen Mom OG At Home: Cory & Taylor’s Baby Special from its Tuesday schedule and is ending our relationship with Taylor Selfridge in light of her past racist statements on social media,” the network said in a statement provided to Deadline.

“MTV strongly condemns systemic racism and stands with those raising their voices against injustice.”

Selfridge’s response

The 25-year old reality star responded to the issue via her Instagram account which has been made private since then.

She mentioned how she quit the show since last week and that it was her decision to not film anymore for the next season of Teen Mom OG.

“I don’t believe the reality TV lifestyle benefits me any further at this point in my life. With current events being what they are and reality TV being selective in who they apply rules to or what is considered acceptable behavior, I do not have any further respect,” Selfridge wrote.

She then went on to address her past tweets wherein she apologized for anyone she has hurt or offended in the past.

“I have addressed my mistakes many times on the network and I would like to move on and continue to be the best version of myself,” she said.

Taylor Selfridge asks people to respect her decision for privacy for her and her family.
