Taylor Swift received another achievement in her music career after she eclipsed Whitney Houston’s record-breaking streak in Billboard top chart.
It came after Billboard announced that the Grammy Award winner surpassed the iconic superstar, who passed away at the age of 48 in 2012, on the Billboard 200 chart for a female artist after her recent album, Folklore, spent 47 weeks in the top spot.
Released by Billboard magazine, the said ranking listed the top 200 most popular music albums and EPs in the United States and used to gauge the popularity of a particular artist or group.
Prior to this, the I Will Always Love You hitmaker’s four albums spent a total of 46 weeks at the summit of the chart and has been the titleholder since 1987.
This includes her self-titled album, which stayed at the number one chart for 14 weeks, followed by her second studio album “Whitney” at 11 weeks, while her 1992 The Bodyguard soundtrack clocked up 20 weeks. Lastly, her 2009 hit song I Look To You spent one week at the top of the Billboard 200 chart.
Following Swift’s milestone, her eighth studio album climbed to the top spot for ‘a seventh nonconsecutive week,’ and gained 87,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. for this week alone, per Nielsen Music/MRC Data.
“Of Folklore’s 87,000 units earned in the tracking week ending Sept. 24, album sales comprise 56,000 (up 339 percent), SEA units comprise 30,000 (down 4 percent) equaling 39.8 million on-demand streams of the album’s songs) and TEA units total 1,000 (up 38 percent),” the outlet mentioned.
