A Team Fortress 2 mod is taking the community by storm right as TF2 Classic released today. The mod has a ton of favorites in it, harkening to the early days of the game.
Team Fortress 2 is one of the oldest games on Steam, released in 2007. The game changed a ton after more than a decade of gameplay updates. The mod tries to get the original modes back for the modern era.
TF2Classic reimagines ’08 version of the game
When referring to Classic, people would think it refers to the original Team Fortress. This is not that, but rather it relates to the early years of the game.
In their FAQ, the definition of TF2Classic is much different. Classic “is a reimagining of the 2008-2009 era of the original Team Fortress 2, of which is what we consider the ‘Classic Era’, featuring old features that were scrapped and worked upon, or new content such as new weapons and gamemodes.”
The early years of TF2 were among the most beloved in the community. The original modes included Capture the Flag and Special Delivery. The mod also adds VIP and Domination.
What makes the mod superbly robust are two additions. Its two maps add two new teams into the mix – Team GRN and Team YLW. The four-team mode is possible with any mode as long as the map’s logistics allow it.
One of the original modes that splintered off the mod is the Team Deathmatch mode. The mode split off the team as it’s too much work. It’s now its independent game, which is Team Deathmatch Classic, handled by Compucolor.
TF2 Classic is a fun game of chaos
Team Fortress 2 Classic is an excellently made mod that covers a ton of content. Its focus on the original modes makes it a robust offering for old school fans of the game. The Domination maps are chaotic when four teams are playing too.
The Domination maps have four teams with only three points in total. This event means players would need to play their darndest to win a point.
The modes are not, in any way, close to competitive at all. The entire game can get imbalanced if players dominate too early. Even then, the whole thing is fun, and the chaos will give anyone a good laugh.
The Team Fortress 2 mod is available on the homepage for the modders. The installation instructions are rather simple, and anyone can do it. The mod also has an official Twitter account, together with the dev team.
